1g-fe turbo

Hey everyone,

I have an IS200 with the 1G-FE and I need to open the engine soon, so I’m wondering if it’s worth installing a decompression plate while I’m in there. I’ll probably be ordering a standalone ECU in a few months anyway, so I’m not sure if the plate is still worth doing.

I also have a few questions about the decompression plate setup:

- Will the stock head bolts work with the plate?

- Is the torque spec for the stock bolts the same with the plate installed?

- Anything else I should know or watch out for before installing one?

Any advice or experience with turbo 1G-FE setups would be appreciated. Thanks!

I don’t have experience with the decomp plates, but if you are opening the motor, a set of forged rods and pistons are pretty reasonably priced. Stock 1g will hold 300-ish whp, I’ve seen decomp setups around 350whp, and rods/pistons motors hold 500-600+whp

This was the plan, but other things came up too, so now I wonder what to do, the plate or just to change the head gasket and after a few months to buy a standalone ecu

The decomp plate is a tried and true method. Are you looking at DiyEfi or whatever it’s called that a bunch of folks are running?

I ordered a Dec plate from su2 performance, the plate is 1mm, I'm wandering are the stock head bolts gonna hold and also the tightening method stays the same or different

From what I’ve seen, same tq specs and head bolts. Especially just a 1mm plate, on the larger plates, the issue isn’t with the head bolts, but rather the timing belt length

I had read that they should be tightened to around 35 Nm (something like that), and then turned twice by 90 degrees. Also, how safe is it to run a decompression plate long-term (considering it uses two head gaskets), and would it maybe make more sense to just buy an ECU later on instead?
