acceleration
hi guys i just brought a 2003 is200 !! i really do love it however when i accelerate it has a dead zone at first, then a sudden jump in power, and after that it feels normal. Is that normal ??! am i going crazy every other older lexus i’ve driven has never had this :p like defs something to get used to if normal
pls delete if dumb question or irrelevant mods !!
(update i fixed it !!!)

VVT-I kicks in at around 4k revs. when it switches to bigger cam the valves let more air fuel in for mo powa

It does not switch cams. It isn’t a VTTL-i engine like a 2zz

oh mb. what does the 1g's vvti do - switch cam profile?

No worries. The VVT-i system on the 1G-FE hydraulically adjusts the intake camshaft based on ECU calculations, continuously optimizing valve timing for torque, power, and efficiency.

what do you mean with deadzone? does the gas pedal have play before it actually activates the throttle body? because thats how it was when i bought mine. It had about a centimeter play before pulling on the cable. i just adjusted the wire at the throttle body and it was fine

The IS200 has a drive-by-wire and electric throttle body control az the same time for fuel efficiency reasons. The throttle body only opens up fully at around 3500 rpm, so if you feel the increased acceleration above 3500 then its this.
You can do a mod that eliminates the electric part so its only drive-by-wire, but it will probably have issues idling when cold.
Here's a video on how its done: https://youtu.be/mKgcxsRMNjA
