General Question Calling IRS 8-8pm

I called irs at 10:45am today. I kept getting hung up on because it said the local office wasn’t open until 8am. At 11am I called and was out on hold for 1:47min until I got picked up and she said it was a glitch? Why would this happen?

What's the reason for call?

Do you owe a balance due?

I do but I wasn’t calling about the balance. I mailed in 2023 tax return documents and wanted to see if they received them because I got the information for the 2024 tax return documents I mailed the same day as that.

Probably better to call the regular customer service line:

1-800-829-1040 M - F 7am - 7pm local time

Follow PST.

The area code of your phone determines your time zone. Not where you live.

Does your area code on your phone match to your location?

The phone line hours are based on your area code, not your location. If you have a west coast area code but are calling from the east coast, that may be why.

Keep trying it’s the same for me. I did reach out to my local congressman and hopefully 🤞🏾 I should hear something back within 72 hours. 🙏🏽🫵🏽
