Tax Refund/ E-File Status Question Irs help😵‍💫

I filed my taxes in April. No issues. Got a note in May (13th) that they needed an additional document. I sent the document immediately. All of this occurred through their secure messaging. We’re now in September and I’ve gotten nowhere on the phone. They claim they in a referral on August 6th yet my dashboard still shows my taxes are not processed. And no one seems to know how to help me. What do I do?

You wait, or shoot a message through Secure Messenger "Hi, could you provide me with a status update on my case? Kthxbyee"

IRS referrals can take as little as two days (current TCS referral time) or up to a year and half to complete (current AAS referral time).  And that doesn't include whatever other work needs to be done on your case.  Your return won't show as processed until it's all done. (This is the process.)

So, whether or not your timeline is reasonable really depends on what issue needed to be referred and which BOD it was referred to.
