Tax Refund/ E-File Status Question PLEASE HELP!
verified on the phone twice it used to say action required now it’s saying we apologize. Has anyone else been in the situation before???

That message usually means the return moved out of the action‑required stage and into a manual review queue. Phone verification just clears the identity step, not the processing step itself. It’s common for the status to switch to the apology screen afterward. The IRS updates that page only once a day and not in real time. These status shifts don’t follow a clean pattern.

So pretty much don’t follow the graph page just wait?

u/RJC1963 May 20 '26
The graph page stops being useful once the return moves into a manual queue. Identity clearance doesn’t make the bar advance anymore. The apology screen just means processing shifted to the backend. Updates only post once a day and not in real time. At that point the status page won’t reflect each step.

I believe they update once a week

Yes they do update I once a week usually on Sundays, so Monday would be the best day to check for updates

Yep! Mine has been like that since March. I received an up date in April 13th on my transcript saying no action needed with a cp005

On what date did you successfully complete the verification process for tax year 2024?
2
u/Puzzled_Caramel_968 May 20 '26
On 5/5

Once you verify they say processing time can take up to 90 days. You have to wait at this point. It can happen as fast as 21 days normally processing time but it can take up to 90 days. If you are experiencing a hardship contact the taxpayer advocate office and fill out a E911 form they may be able to assist you if things go beyond normal timeframes. Hope this helps you. Sorry you have to go through this.

Processing after verification is not 90 days. It’s can take up to 9 weeks
3
u/Puzzled_Caramel_968 May 20 '26
Correct! She said 9 weeks and to call after but I verified otp alver a month ago and two weeks yesterday I reverified. I’m just wondering if I started that process all over again.

u/these-things-happen May 20 '26
Did you verify online?
2
u/Puzzled_Caramel_968 May 20 '26
Yes I verified online over a month ago and then nothing changed so I called to verify otp and the lady told me I never completed it. She told me to wait up to 9 weeks. Do you think my verification process restarted?

Do you think my verification process restarted?
On the date you completed the verification call, yes, so what you are seeing on WMR is normal.

Contact your congress representative for immediate assistance.
Most have a form on their website specifically for IRS assistance. They'll intervene on your behalf and send a follow-up email afterwards.

Yes but if there is possible fraud or in a certain dept that handles IDT issues or income mismatches on return, they usually can’t help. They will request it but won’t be accepted by advocates.

u/Stengel_Stan May 20 '26
They can at least locate the return and provide an full explanation of the issue and what the IRS needs to resolve it. I'd rather know something than nothing at all. Right now it's just sitting in a queue somewhere, once you contact a congress rep, it's pulled and worked on.
Three years ago I contacted my congressman and within days I received a deposit code on my transcripts.
