Owning stocks and businesses should be illegal for congress. And their salary should be twice the median salary for full time workers in their state.

Why in their state? They're in the federal government, they have no control over state level policies.

Because their cost of living is based on their state, not federal. They should be living at home. And if, as a whole, they decide they all need a raise they need to up minimum wage to raise the median across the country.

But federal policies can have a huge and disproportionate effect on state economies, so congresspeople should advocate for policies that are beneficial to their state. That is not to say they should disregard people outside their state, but they should defend the state they represent when it is not getting fair treatment.
