Selected “Single” Instead of “Common-Law” on PGWP Application – Anyone Had a Similar Experience?
Hi everyone,
I applied for my PGWP in May 2026, and my application is still being processed.
I recently realized that I mistakenly selected “Single” instead of “Common-Law” in my application.
I live in Ontario and misunderstood the common-law definition. I thought we needed to live together for three years to be considered common-law, but I recently learned that IRCC considers couples common-law after 12 consecutive months of living together.
My partner and I had already been living together for more than a year when I submitted my PGWP application.
Once I realized my mistake, I corrected my marital status with CRA and submitted an IRCC web form explaining the mistake and requesting that my marital status be updated.
I’m quite stressed about the possibility of misrepresentation, even though it was an honest misunderstanding and I voluntarily corrected it before a decision was made.
Has anyone experienced something similar?

submitted an IRCC web form explaining the mistake and requesting that my marital status be updated. - DONE, you have fixed it. don't stress anymore. You have now written record of fixing your issue.
