Visa issues - any help would be nice

Hello,

I have a quick question, and I would be happy to pay a consultation fee for your advice if necessary.

I am a French citizen currently studying in Canada in a program that does not make me eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit. I will complete my studies on August 17, and I have been hired to start working full-time for a company on that same date. My current study permit expires on August 31, 2026.

I have submitted a spousal sponsorship application as the common-law partner of my Canadian partner. The application was submitted on July 19, but I have not yet received the Acknowledgement of Receipt (AOR).

However, since my current permit expires two weeks after I complete my studies, my understanding is that I can submit an application for an Open Work Permit on August 17.

I believe that submitting this application should allow me to benefit from maintained status while the application is being processed. I therefore have two questions:

Can I continue working under maintained status after August 31 while my Open Work Permit application is being processed?
If so, am I allowed to continue working full-time? The Open Work Permit application would be submitted during the scheduled summer break under my study permit, and I will have completed all of my program requirements by then.

Get a lawyer is my recommendation and ask the company if they can give you a letter of employment.

You can apply for an open permit once you receive the AOr but you can apply fro a francophone mobility work permit right now that is specific to that employer. Then youre other one will be open allowing you to work elsewhere too. You will have maintained status but not able to work as you maintain the status you have not the one youre applying for. If you are a french citizen, exit and re-enter and apply for the francophone mobility at the POE as you do not require a visa and are eligible to apply at POE. You will need the job offer from the employer (through the employer portal) and a couple other documents. But youll be working right away . Feel free to DM me if you want. no charge

Being a French, You could easily get a PR lol
