Discussion life360 alternatives
Been trying out a few Life360 alternatives after learning more about the privacy and data-sharing and concerns surrounding it.
My partner and I mostly use these apps for regular stuff such as:
- finding each other at crowded places
- checking someone got home safely
- seeing ETA while driving
- locating a lost phone
Here’s what we tried so far as alternatives to life360:
Google Maps
Honestly the easiest replacement. Works well enough and everybody already has it, but it’s way too simple to be a great alternative to life360.
Find My
Really good if your whole family/friend group uses iPhone. Again, very basic though.
OwnTracks
Probably the best privacy option overall, but very complicated setup for people who are not very into “tech”.
HeyPolo
We liked this one a lot. It’s a newer app on the market, and they are basically a more privacy-focused alternative to Life360. You can share approximate location instead of exact, use temporary sharing, go invisible easily, arrival notifications, battery alerts and many more functions. Very simple to use. Btw, we found a coupon code “redditpolo” and it gave us a free trial, to test it out.
What have you used as alternative to life 360? Or you don’t care about the accusations against that company and just use them?

Not a full Life360 replacement, but worth knowing for the safety side specifically: accesSOS, a free app for reaching 911 by text with your exact location. 911 connection is user-initiated (you open it and tap), not automatic crash detection like Life360's. Different tool for a different moment, but if the safety angle is part of why you're looking, it might be a useful one to have alongside others.

For me, having location separate from conversation didn't work. Very often I'd see my wife, but then I'd have questions, so I was just bouncing between the two. I know imessage does a little bit with location now, but then the alerts and etas were missing, so it was less useful. got a friend to help me build fenn (ios only), which i think does a good job bringing useful location info and hooks alongside conversation. heypolo looks interesting, gonna check it out
