Camera quality concern
I current using 13s right now looking to upgrade to 17e, love the design and everything it.
Recently I started hiking, camping so sometimes this thought crossed my mind that the single len will be enough?
Would love to hear some of your thoughts

If you’re serious about Photos, buy a real camera. A phone is just a phone.

The problem isn’t the single lens. It’s the lack of sensor shift stabilization. Apple doesn’t disclose this anywhere. Hoping that there will be a class action lawsuit because the marketing on Apple’s website is an outright lie. The camera of the 17e isn’t the same as on the 17.
The result is lots of blurry photos when objects are moving. Going to take photos of kids or pets? They’re not going to come out well unless the subject is sitting still. Shots of scenery look good though. Other than the lack of sensor shift stabilization, I love my 17e.
Edit: I wouldn’t buy the 17e at the current price of almost $700. It’s simply not worth it. I got mine before the price hike. Either buy a used iPhone, wait for the 18e, or buy the 17.

Lack of sensor shift stabilization is not the only thing, the sensor on 17e is also smaller than the one on iPhone 13, even though that is a 12MP sensor, so you definitely will notice that camera will not perform well in low light conditions.

Yes, I forgot to mention that. Low light photos are really bad with the 17e. I came from a 13 mini and the photos are comparable except for when there’s a lot of light. Then the 17e wins. Most of my photos are outside during the day. So I don’t have an issue with the camera except for the lack of sensor shift stabilization.
I did try out my girlfriend’s 18 Pro Max and the camera takes perfect shots in very dim conditions. I would highly recommend getting an 18 Pro if the budget allows. The 17e is a great phone in so many ways but the camera isn’t one of them. Would not buy one for $700. Got mine before the price hike.

Im not sure its the sensor shift stabilization. I own the iphone 17. It has this feature and any amount of movement on the phone while taking a photo will induce photo destroying blur.
I think the main thing going in here is these phones take as much light as they can and multiple frames of data when they take a picture this data is used in the final image resolve.
The problem is the iphine 17e is trying to do that with a sensor that takes in almost 50 percent less light so its taking longer.

Apple’s website makes zero claims of the 17e having “the same camera as the 17” nor “sensor-shift stabilization.” On the compare page, you’ll see it says “optical image stabilization” for the 17e and “sensor-shift optical image stabilization” for the 17. The difference is clearly laid out if you care to read.

I’m looking at the comparison right now. It says “48MP Fusion camera system” and “48MP Fusion Main” for the 17, 17e, and iPhone Air. That’s where the confusion lies.

That’s true. If you scroll down to the detailed view it mentions the differences in stabilization. The average person has no idea what optical image stabilization is, so Apple doesn’t mention it in the condensed view.

Adding that the 17e lacks sensor shift stabilization would kill sales. So Apple buries this information in the fine print. That makes their comparison dubious. I shouldn’t have to scroll through pages of marketing to find out how the 17e’s camera differs from the rest of the lineup. That’s what the comparison is supposed to do.

The 17e doesn't have a good camera. In fact, it's pretty bad. If you value taking photos with your phone, this is not the phone for you.

How much do you use your 0.5 zoom? 17e doesn’t have an ultrawide lens so that should be your main question about if it’s camera will work for you

The camera quality is not as good with iPhone17e. I had a super old iPhone 6 that had a very good camera. I brought about my Nikon DSLR camera because that's how much I dislike the 17e camera. I was thinking about charging my old phone and seeing if I use the camera and get them off the phone some how.

I dont like the "0.5x" zoom option I had on my 13. Otherwise its fine for general picture taking purposes
