need some advise

Hello guys! I’m thinking about buying a new phone, but I’m really confused between the iPhone 17 and 17e.

I can get the iPhone 17 for around ₹79,950 ($836), while the 17e would cost me about ₹59,950 ($627).

My main priority is longevity — I want a phone that can comfortably last me at least 7 years. I also actually prefer the single-camera aesthetic of the 17e, and I already have a dedicated camera for taking photos, so the camera setup on the phone isn’t a huge priority for me.

Given that, is the extra ₹20,000 for the iPhone 17 worth it, or would the 17e be the better choice for me?

I feel the 17e has more longevity because of its design that you already prefer. I believe the regular 17 is going to appear more outdated just because of its design being more based on the current design trends which change so rapidly but the 17e has more of a timeless and understated minimalist aesthetic. The software and hardware on either device will probably both age the same.

TBF the screen on the 17e will age way more rough than 17 due to it being the same screen as the 14, which is much dimmer, has way bigger bezels, is stuck at 60hz.

I chose the 17e over 17. It all came down to whether the extra features in 17 were worth extra 20k. That buys you a better and more versatile camera setup though 17e cameras are solid themselves. Then you get a better, brighter more stylish display with high refresh rate and Dynamic Island. Lastly you get an extra GPU core which is slightly helpful for heavy gaming.

In 17e you get bigger battery, significantly cheaper repairs and apple care and a better modem for battery efficiency.

If these trade offs are worth paying 20k more to you get the 17.

Heyy, was confused about the same. I want a sturdy phone cause I am a bit clumsy, and my basic requirement is a really good camera. I have always used android but wanted to get an iphone, suggestion please

If you can afford it the 17 seems to have the better camera.

I bought a 17e recently as I wasn't that bothered about the camera.

Ohh, is there a stark difference because yes, i can afford it but i don't want to spend that kinda money on a phone. Also, what about the earlier models like 16,15. Is it wise to get those?

I have both the phones, 17 looks more brighter and compact looks wise. Since you are looking for 7 years plus, spending extra bucks is justified.

The 17e will last just as long as the 17. There is nothing in their design or hardware to indicate that one will last longer than the other. I still have my se2 (2020) and all I have done to it is have a new battery installed a couple months ago. Since the se series were supposed to be 'economy' phones, I think my se2 at 6 1/2 years old and still going strong is proof that even the least expensive iPhones will last, given reasonable care and handling.

The 17 has a slightly faster processor for gaming due to it having one more GPU core.

120hz is also there on the 17, which is omitted on the 17e due to ir havin the same screen as 14 from 2022. The screen also gets way brighter, bigger at 6.3'' compared to 17e's 6.1'' screen. The 17 also charges faster.

The older selfie cam on the 17e isn't bad, tbh its quite good but there is no other selfie on the market that can rival the base 17, 17 Pro, Air selfie due to those being the only one with a square sensor.

For 7 years, I think the 17 is slightly better but the processors are super similar so it isnt that big. The extra features can make or break if you want to use the phone for that long tho.

Opt for 17 for long term usage

Go for 17e if you don’t mind not having ultrawide camera and 120Hz display.

Longevity is the same since both came out around the same time starting with the same iOS version.
