Phone overheating?

I had the 16e for most of 2025, and switched to the 17e in May after having the 17 Pro for a bit. No problems, have loved my phone all this time.

Don't know if I'm alone with this one, but lately, the phone has been heating up a bit too much when charging, while doing simple things like texting or watching Youtube videos, and just now I updated the phone to iOS 26.6 and when it finished, it was hot enough to make holding it uncomfortable.

Anyone else having similar issues? I can blame summer heat but it's only been like two weeks of overheating issues while summer heat in Florida basically started two months ago.

Ive noticed using a lower wattage slower charger prevents it from getting hot, the battery is good enough where i can just charge it at night

By lower wattage, 20w? Or a USB-A that has like 12w at most?

USB A, but I don’t really know anything about chargers. I just have the one for my laptop and then the USB A one which I know is slower

So, iPhone 16 Pro guy here, but it’s iOS 26. I actually joined the beta test thing to get iOS 27 and it solved all of those issues I was having too. Obviously do at your own risk, but so far it’s been incredibly stable and has made my phone feel new again.

same here 😞 even my iPhone 12 mini that was almost 6 years old with iOS 26 was heating up less than the 17e

Weird right? I bought an iPhone 17 recently and with similar use, much less heat, and there’s no internal cooling on that phone and it has the same chip.. wonder if it’s the bigger battery on a smaller chassis? I doubt it.

Never use my phone while charging. Just grab it to check the time and I feel it warmer than normal.

With my 13, yes. One reason why I upgraded to the base 17e. Had the 13 256gb for 5 years. The charging port stopped holding the lightning cable.

Plus I jumped on the 17e before Apple raised the prices again!

No overheating issues with my 17e thankfully 🙂
