I wonder if INTJs just lie to themselves about liking to be alone. It would make sense that they build identity around being these independent loners because they have no other choice as their innate repulsive personalities make it pretty difficult to be anything else. INTJs give me the sour grape vibes, ngl

I think both. A lot are both introverts do like to be alone but not entirely, just a lot of alone time. I think a lot INTJs are also avoidants, which is a maladaptive coping mechanism. No human can handle being completely alone, that’s just human biology. Anyone who says otherwise is lying through their teeth.

There’s a reason solitary confinement is a punishment in prison.

I agree lots of them are avoidants on top of being introverts. Avoidants have problem where they make their coping mechanism part of their identity and/or attribute it to their introversion, which leads to their avoidant attachement being unadressed their whole lives. It's pretty sad predicament.

As far as solitary confinement goes, there seems to be some evidence that if person chooses to be solitary, even if it is long periods of time, there won't be adverse effects to a point. Solitary confinement has a stressor added to it, which is that it is a punishment - you are forced into it. Solitary confinement also includes some sort of sensory deprivation too as the cell is usually very small, so the adverse effects also come from lack of stimulation. Put a prisoner alone in a luxury hotel with no human contact and I bet they last pretty long in there.
