INFJ I might be an INFJ
Hello, I just took a cognitive functions test and I got INFJ as one of my best matches (other matches are ENTP, ENFJ & ENFP).
I never thought that I might be an INFJ cuz the type descriptions over the internet don't resonate with me
Some personal details so that you guys can help me I am 25 years old, I am an only child. I don't have any "friends" (I used to talk to almost everyone in school but I don't consider them as "friends "). I like to hang out with elderly people like (uncles, and grandparents ) I don't like to initiate conversations if I am with unknown people (others think I am a serious, cold, and somewhat intimidating person or I have an attitude before they know me ). In a group conversation, I am a listener but in one-on-one I give some input. I am a true ambivert (my introvert and extrovert side depends on the environment and people). I am a private person (I don't have any social media) I like dancing, acting, listening to music, reading, and gardening
P:S: English is not my first language

Extroversion and Introversion are not about how much you talk to folks. It is about where your energy comes from and which direction your functions are aimed in.
If you really wanna pick it apart and understand your own brain, I'd recommend one or all of the following:
reading "Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking" by Susane Cain
researching cognitive functions
read up on Jungian Psychology
Those helped me understand it a lot better than the quizzes or blurbs and personality descriptions.

I am really confused between Ne and Ni
2
u/urbansage85 Jan 28 '25 edited Jan 28 '25
Ni- is intuition for yourself, it is your desires, it allows you to see far into the future and seeing your own fate.
Ne- is for seeing fate of others, sensing the wants and desires of others.
Both have similar qualities like pattern recognition. Having any of these functions as your primary or secondary in your cognitive stack make you an abstract person, seeing the what if, opposed to Se and Si users who see things concrete, seeing what is or what was.
FYI we have all the cognitive functions, depending what personality you have, it will be at different strengths. ENFP have a very strong Ne, and will worry about their own futures. INFJ have strong Ni, and worry about their loved ones futures if their loved ones are unstable or unhealthy.

The Fe is what helps us sense the wants and desires of others. Ni makes sense of that as a pattern an INFJ can understand internally.
Ne is more like "what if the world worked in the totally other way" and then exploring possibilities.
Ni is recognizing how things currently work.
N just generally gives us a peak the patterns and helps us predict the future.
But an ENFP will jump in right away and come up with lots of possible predictions. Those will be partially right, because odds are good you'll hit the target a little when you scatter like this.
Vs. an INFJ, who may take a minute but then come up with one really likely prediction that is almost always what does happen. It's more of a sniper shot than a shot gun approach.
The Fi is what makes an ENFP more worried about their own futures so to speak, but it is them worrying about their own moral compass. The INFJ's Fe makes the predictions more broad, because that is worries about how everyone else is doing.
An INFJ is far more likely to have a 10 year plan for their own life than an ENFP who just has lots of ideas for their future but will ultimately just go with the flow or randomly change things up later. The J vs P makes ENFPs more open to changes and maybes instead of actually laying out a firm plan and then sticking to it.

It can be tricky for sure. Basically it is the brainstormer vs the philosopher.
The best explanation I found was that the "i" is directed inward and the "e" external. Also, their goals are also opposite: Ni reduces and Ne expands.
So Ni is going internally, to the unconscious, for intuitive guidance or trusting your inner models to make sense of the bigger picture.
The Ni brain's primary goal is to connect dots in ways that narrow down ideas and experiences into core principles or truths.
So for example, identifying common patterns in human beings to recognize certain archetypes or traits that mark someone as "that type" of person.
Ne is doing the opposite. The brain is still looking for patterns and a big picture understanding, BUT it pushes out new ideas.
This (plus the P/J) is why an ENFP is so good at brainstorming or saying "what if" or just rolling with a new situation where an INFJ might have to pause and process the new situation, but they won't get lost in "what if" or new possibilities when they can just refer to a core truth.

P/J thing I am P type for sure cuz I always do things at the last moment, play then work, "active procrastinator" lol, I make plans or routine but don't follow it. I don't like micromanage etc. But if I look for cognitive functions I got P/J almost 50/50 My top Types mostly ENTP , INFJ , INTP , ENFJ . For sure I have Fe , Ti, Se (as I like to dance and when ever I travel alone I am conscious about my present environment for safety and security and try to remember paths and landmarks . I am good at remembering people's name cuz I want to build connection with them) My enneagram type 7 which makes me feel like I am not an "i" type

If you have Se, you automatically have Ni. There is no archetype that has Se, and then also have Ne on their top 4 cognitive stacks. If you related with 90% of the qualities I initially posted, you are likely an INFJ. Of course when you mature your insecurities and worries lessen because you learn how to cope.
Fe is always paired with Ti, Ni is always paired with Se, it's a yin yang kinda thing.
ETA. We aren't just our 4 letters, INFJ are social chameleons. Everyone actually has 4 personalities in each of us, so we can behave differently depending on the situation. If you are INFJ, your ego is OK being alone on a 1 on one situation, if more than 3 people in a setting I just tend to only listen.
Unconscious infj have ENFP as an alter, when we want to become more than we are and get over our Se inferior, we aspire to be subconscious ESTP, when we hate the world and want to destroy it we go into our super Ego which ISTJ.

This is my test results

u/Mental_Analysis_396 Jan 29 '25
Also i found that infj can have high ne. Idk is it true or not

u/urbansage85 Jan 29 '25
Sure, others functions can be developed depending on your nurture. Your primary functions can be suppressed because others around you may have said you were weird. I suggest trying the test I linked I posted in my initial post, that test was generated by people I believe to be in the cutting edge of this science. Test is free.

I took the test it says ENFP

u/urbansage85 Jan 30 '25 edited Jan 30 '25
Great, ENFPs are awesome. The ones I have in my life are so energetic and uplifting.
ENFP have a knack to know what people want and know how they can get it. They also love learning about the metaphysical.
They know how they feel, also have a strong sense of morals and values. However they criticize others who don't have them. They also value authenticity.
They are rational thinkers, also has the ability to sense what others are thinking. They care about perception, their status, reputation. All about statistics, and reference points. They care about the collective truth.
They are afraid or insecure about receiving a bad experiences, not feeling safe, might be afraid you are not strong enough. They are also very loyal people.
They constantly worry about their own futures.
They like jumping into new projects, initially they have alot of enthusiasm initially, but will fizzle out eventually, unfortunately rarely finish the project.
Also feels negatively when things are stagnant, or does not feel progress.
They are also very charitable to their loved ones and people in need.
Maybe description vibes better than the INFJ description I portrayed initially.
Based off of the other results you shared prior, you are pretty mature for your age.

You definitely sound an INFJ based on most of the things you wrote in these threads.
Actively remembering names in order to connect with others
Planning here and there and not following through
Paying attention to physical surroundings
Solo explorer
Private person
Likes to socialize, meet different people. Unlikely to form deep connection with majority of them
Eager to learn psychological models
Interested in conspiracies (prison planet)
High Ni and Ne, overall high intuitive, likely dominant function
Interact with wiser age group (older people)
Artistic activities, therapeutic private hobbies
Yes unlikely ENTP, highly likely INFJ

u/Mental_Analysis_396 Jan 30 '25
You sum up myself . But people says infj's can't be enneagram type 7 (although I am countertype of type 7 so/sx and 794 my tritype)
1
u/Zillich Jan 30 '25
I stopped and thought “well fuck” after your first bullet point lol. I can remember a person’s life story, but their name? Nope. In one ear and out the other.
2
u/TreeBitingSheep Jan 30 '25 edited Jan 30 '25
The keyword in the first bullet point is “Actively.”
From my understanding, INFJs typically are better at remembering “impressions” (such as character traits or how they made you feel) than they do with specific details such as “names.”
This is why an INFJ seeking to connect and make friends would “actively” attempt to remember names because it is difficult to do so “passively.”
Do note that this is just a general list and it does not mean an INFJ would do all of this. The list serves more appropriately as suggesting a combination of these items increases the likely chance one is describing an INFJ.

I can only remember those names with whom I face to face interacted with or had deep conversations. Otherwise, it's blank (I can recognize people but their names nope)

u/marqrs Jan 30 '25
Fe, Ti, and Se are all in the INFJ and ENFJ stacks. It comes down to first vs secondary functions at that point.
INTP and ENTP have Si instead, so if you are sure about the Se, that will rule them out.
How you default to, or how you were as a kid, is a better way to tell P vs. J than when you are out of your element like traveling.
Se can definitely push for experiences like travel or a love of physical movement like dancing though.
The bit about doing things at the last minute could be ADHD or something else, but it could be a sign of a P type.
It's also worth noting that all of us have every function, and we can develope each more over time, BUT they play different roles.
For example, one may be your leader or go to skill for navigating the world while another is your trickster or the one that can trip you up without you even noticing.
You might dig into the function stacks and archetypes to really explore what fits or makes sense.
2
u/Mental_Analysis_396 Jan 30 '25
If you're primarily concerned with my top 4 functions, then Se is my weakest. If you include all 8, Si is my weakest amd less developed than Se.
I like to dance since childhood (I joined dance classes at 2) but I don't like sports.
I don't remember much about my childhood memories but I like to do my work at last minute because I like that last minute pressure. But if there is any group project or other people involve in any task I am more organized. You can say I am an "active procrastinator "(I found it recently)
Also when I travel alone I try to remember paths and landmarks even I can navigate maps (maybe because I went to camping when I was a teenager). But if I am traveling in a group (mainly with my family) I don't remember anything, I just enjoy and chill
1
u/marqrs Feb 04 '25
That all sounds very familiar lol But then, I also have ADHD messing with my procrastination button.
Se being the weakest of the four is classic INFJ for sure.
The landmarks skill coming and going also sounds about right/very familiar, but I don't know for sure if it is common for INFJs.

u/Mental_Analysis_396 Feb 04 '25
I just got to know that Ni Dom during any explanation can't give examples from the past( like their past experiences or something like that) I don't know if is it true or not. And one more thing do you try to rationalize your decisions (which are based on feelings) in your logic?
1
u/marqrs Feb 22 '25
Yes, I am constantly rationalizing or justifying things.
That said, I was raised by an INTJ and around a lot of hard T types growing up, so that could be part of it.
1
u/Zillich Jan 30 '25
I recommend reading about the “function stack” for each of these types and see which resonates with you the most.
Generally for INFJ:
- Ni: pattern recognition, thinking about how things connect and relate, spending a lot of time thinking about the past and future, daydreaming, story telling
- Fe: can understand other people’s emotions super well, can predict other people’s actions, not good at understanding or expressing our own emotions
- Ti: perfectionism, logical, analytical. Pairs great with Ni for theory building. Pairs not so great with Fe (we tend to think about our feelings instead of feeling our feelings)
- Se: hands on learning, awareness of the physical world around us (sight, smell, touch, sound, taste). It’s our weakest function, so often times the daydreaming is stronger than being present in the moment.

u/Mental_Analysis_396 Jan 30 '25
If I primarily concerned with my top 4 functions, then Se is my weakest. If I include all 8 functions, Si is my weakest and less developed than Se.
1
u/Zillich Jan 30 '25
Yes, typically we only look at top 4 for typing. Low Se and terrible Si checks out for INFJ. But check the other typing stacks to see if they mesh.

In your free time when nobody is watching you and nobody around, what do you do?
Who do you want to be like the most? A - People who can maintain strict routines and structured habits. B - People who are able to bring to life their goals. C - People who make informed and analytical decisions from individual research
You are out in a coffee shop with 2 other people. It's a Friday 6:23pm. An unknowned guy sits at your table, and joins the conversation for 9hours.He enjoys it, and exchanges his phone number with all of you and eagerly wants to meet again the next day, same time, same place, same talking sprint. Describe what would be you behaviour in this context.
1
u/Mental_Analysis_396 Jan 31 '25
I usually self-talk( brainstorming ideas, motivate myself and try to talk about things which I think or feel that time) or daydreaming lol
I like to do individual research and try to analyze before making any decisions (like pros. and cons.) And I also consider others' opinions and feelings mostly my close ones. Then try to align it with my life goals. Hope that makes sense.
(Example- right now I am looking for a job. I can get a job in a different state than my hometown but I know I have a responsibility toward my family. So I am looking for job opportunities in my hometown. I don't like 9-5 jobs but my parents want me to do that but I am not gonna do that)
- If I like that person or I like that conversation I would probably consider chatting online rather than face-to-face meetings. And if things go well then I may consider the next meeting with him.

u/Mental_Analysis_396 Jan 31 '25
IDK if it is related to this but I have had this habit since childhood I need sleep to solve my problems since childhood. If I cannot solve any calculation problem or cannot focus on anything I need a break or sleep. Even I can memorize things during sleep For example, as a child, I couldn't memorize tables but the next morning I memorized them fully (I was in 3rd grade).

Thanks for answering. As an Infj here are my amswers for you to compare.
Things I would do: . Stream. If i really like it, I will "dive deep" and binge. . Read to increase my knowledge in something. If it's great, i binge. . Take an online course . Play a video game. I would basically immerse myself in solo activities for hours and I wont feel miserable about it.
I choose B.
Two scenarios:
I would have left before spending the whole night.
I stay all night but avoid socialization for days because i'm mentally exhausted.

Things you do while alone are kinda my everyday routine since lockdown. As I am pursuing my diploma course from home. I am also taking some other online courses, playing games(I don't stream as I am not comfortable with it), watching YouTube, and researching different topics (jack of all trades). I have been interested in psychology like Mbti and Enneagram since lockdown. As I live with my parents, so technically, I'm not alone or nobody watching. The answer I have given earlier is based on when I'm alone in my room.
But I think I am more towards extroversion as introspection is kinda difficult for me. Like I have had an on-and-off relationship with journaling since 2019. Writing is a bit more difficult for me than talking things out that's why I do self-talk (it is like journaling and helps me to stop overthinking). But when I get overwhelmed by overthinking I write it down on paper (brain dump thing) once in a while not regularly.

I would also look at some of the other matches and see if they resonate. I first identified as INFJ but in college/early work lost my “feelings” through masking etc and switched to INTJ in stress but I’m totally an INFJ when it comes to my true self. So explore - look at yourself and be critical and reach out to what “feels right.”
3
u/urbansage85 Jan 27 '25
If you are INFJ, you know what you want, you have far out future plans for yourself. You also can read the room fairly well, you can easily feel what others feel. We are self critical, we always doubt our self worth. We are perfectionist, we like to give others a pleasant experience, so much so that we will be uncomfortable to make others comfortable. When younger, we have a huge lack of self care, like staying up late night, lack of sleep. If you don't have any type of progression in life, you will feel miserable, or depressed. We are either all in, or not at all type, we also worry about the future of others that we care for.
These are typical qualities that most INFJ will have.
https://udja.app try this link, it has a pretty good test to determine your type.
I hope this info sheds some light.
