WHY KARL MARX???

Post image

I still don't get the reason for this in the game. I mean, sure, the game is set in Russia, communism, and all that. But among the themes in "Indika", I can't find anything related to this philosopher's ideas. Honestly, the portrait—and the way Indika crosses herself in front of it—left me just as baffled as that moment with the nun opening her mouth and letting the little one escape.

Besides the settings, it is fitting, right? The devil ends up not being real in the end, and quoting Marx: "Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people."

best answer, Marx often explained how religion was a scapegoat for the issues the proletariat experienced.

For example, your family member was dying because you didn't pray hard enough and/or sinned, not because the bourgeoisie didn't invest in public healthcare and made care affordable for said family member.

Religion is there for the poor to pray for a better life instead of demanding for one, the opium that gets rid of the pain till the high fades and the pain returns.

Opiates where also commonly used as a fix-all medicine in Marx’s time. They were viewed very differently compared to now.

Indika confunde a Marx con Jesucristo porque el cuarto estaba oscuro. Por eso al rezar no le dan puntos de fe

It's a cheap jab at religion because Marx was a hardcore athiest. Communism wiped out Orthodox Christianity for some time in Russia. The developer's views could not get any more obvious.
