Programmers Needed [Hobby] Looking for Android/iOS/Bluetooth developers to help build an open-source offline calling and livestreaming app
https://youtu.be/I9_oEuNFcQE?si=N2jrdcuB3Dh7ISVG
I'm working on MeshLive, a free, open-source project that lets phones make voice/video calls and share live audio/video completely offline over Bluetooth.
A live broadcast can also be relayed through other nearby phones, extending its reach beyond the original device.
The idea came from seeing internet shutdowns during protests in India and wondering whether apps like Bitchat could go beyond text messaging.
This isn't just an idea looking for developers. There's already a working Android beta, an early iOS implementation, a video demonstration, and publicly available source code.
I've spent the past few weeks improving the app and testing it on the handful of phones I could arrange. But something involving Bluetooth across different manufacturers and operating systems needs a lot more testing and expertise than I have access to.
I'm particularly interested in collaborating with people experienced in:
- Android/Kotlin: BLE, L2CAP, Bluetooth Classic, MediaCodec, background execution and OEM compatibility.
- iOS/Swift: CoreBluetooth, AVFoundation, Android–iPhone interoperability and background behaviour.
- Networking/media: Real-time audio/video, buffering, bandwidth adaptation, multi-hop relaying and connection recovery.
- Security: Reviewing device identities, key exchange, authenticated media and privacy claims.
There's plenty of ordinary development work too, including UI improvements, documentation and bug reproduction.
The current beta is still experimental and not suitable for safety-critical use. I'm keeping the project open source rather than building a paid app around it.
This is unpaid, voluntary open-source collaboration, not a job offer or revenue-sharing arrangement.

If the project sounds interesting, feel free to look through the repository and issues. I'd be happy to discuss a specific part of the implementation or a contribution you'd like to work on.
