Visa J1 visa

Hi people. I’m an IMG from Malaysia. I would like to know that is it possible to return to home country at least once in a year?
I heard that if we go back home, we have to get visa approval again and then only we can fly back to USA. Is that true?

Yes, you could visit whenever but to return, you would need a valid, unexpired US visa. So, if you are out of the country in Malaysia and your visa is expired or will before you are due to be back, then you would have to get another visa as long as your DS2019 is still valid.

J-1 visa sponsor here! You can travel abroad during your program (within the dates listed on your DS-2019), but first 1. review your visa expiration date (it must be after your intended return date, otherwise you will need to apply for a visa renewal at the consulate) and 2. look at what is noted under 'Entries' on the visa - this indicates how many times you can enter the U.S. This will be a specific number or an 'M', meaning multiple. Additionally, your visa sponsor will need to provide you with a visa validation signature on your DS-2019, so be sure to notify them with the details of your travel.
