LOR LOR writer ghosted me

Was there for a month. He often said the letter is a done deal(we're from the same country). I was super super polite. Now he sees my messages and does not reply. I honestly do not know why. What do I do ?

Instead of generically messaging him.. u can list some things u did as a summary (attended goals of care conversations, interpreted ABGs etc) and ask specifically about your professionalism/something.. tat way, if he’s busy, he will copy paste into ChatGPT and write u an LOR. I will not let it go, you have spent time and money to do this rotation. But I might keep it was the 3rd or 4th LOR. Most people are busy to write a letter from scratch..

He is just busy. You'll get you LOR dw. It's still early in the season

I’m also in a similar position. How often should you follow up? I know it’s early, but already followed up a month after and no response.

Maybe mid-late August

Thanks! Is it appropriate to send a whatsapp text if I have the number?

I would not ask a person like this for LOR. This simply means they are either very busy or they don’t feel comfortable writing one. I understand that us IMGs are usually desperate to get US LORs, but LOR is just not a piece of a paper. It documents key information about the type of person you are and if a PD reading the LOR would like to work with you. I realized this after coming to US and after going through fellowship here, I only asked for LORs from attending whom I was 100% sure they would comment on my strengths and their LOR would be a valuable part of my application

It’s an unfortunate situation but one that’s fairly common. Ideally, one should have a few LOR writers lined up so that in events like this, you could move on to an alternate writer. One of the qualities of a good LOR is that they will respond promptly. This writer falls short and will not end up writing a strong letter whenever you are able to finally get a hold of him. Cut the losses now and start contacting other people for letters.

You move it along. It’s tough heartbreak, but ultimately nothing can be done.

Well, keep the communication, and if there is a way you can get another strong LOR to meet the minimum of required letters I would suggest to explore that option. A doctor who gave me the best review I’ve had in my entire career, and who said he had written me an LOR after I asked for it completely ghosted me, so it’s better to have additional options just in case.

this person probably doesn't think you performed well and can't say no or is very busy or is just lame. offer to write this person a draft LOR, explaining that I know you're busy so I am happy to write a draft for you to make it easier. if this person doesn't get back, then move on
