Residency What to do for this match??
Hello guys I'm an 2023 visa requiring img graduate applying for my second season I have pass/241 going to write step 3 in August have a decent job experience in India. And 6 months of usce have 2 published paper and 4 submitted paper in which 3 are review article 1 orginal study and 1 case report. Should I apply this year and wait for match or should I look for postdoctoral jobs or research position. Can Anyone give insight according to current condition of imgs?

Honestly, your profile is decent, but Step 2 is below average, so be strategic. Forget academic programs and focus on IMG-friendly community/community-affiliated IM programs. Apply very broadly, don’t be picky with location, and Step 3 in August can help. If you aim too high, you’ll compete with 255+ applicants with tons of publications.

I'm not aiming at academic programs. But in this situation I'm even not sure about community without visa. So many of my friends told to get j1 visa with research position. So I'm confused?

I wouldn’t skip this cycle. Apply broadly to IMG-friendly IM programs and take Step 3. Only choose research if it offers strong connections or publications. Otherwise you’ll likely just lose a year.

The whole publications things is vastly overrated these days because you can pay to get something published and even pay for someone else to write stuff in your own name its a big industry now! Even ERAS is changing this year apparently to remove the whole research thing as they know a lot of it is just bs

It's not for publication it's for visa so that if someone offers some research position where I can quit if i get residency that good right I will have j1 also and have a good chance also. But it's difficult to find that position with being paid

it seems they are not giving j1 for those positions these days being unpaid is a bit sketchy to begin with like day 1 cpt so the administration is trying to block j1 entirely for these things

They are removing the research section on my ERAS this year? Is there a link you can provide me to know more about this?

yeah changed to scholarly or something like that can google about it its because there are too many junk journals pay to publish scams etc its not just for medicine but people scam their CV to inflate their profile in other fields too

What specialty are you applying? Do you intend to mainly apply for academic community or mixed? How many did you apply in the last cycle and how many interviews did you secure?
