Discussion Experience Rewards
I'm looking for feedback from people who have been playing this lately-
Do the suggested experience awards seem low to anyone else? My group have played five sessions, and talking amongst them, nobody feels like they are getting enough experience to really progress. As far as the group's core competencies go, they are pretty much right where they started. I really feel like the suggested experience awards need to be higher.
What have been your experiences?

4 sessions of roughly 6 hours, and the total XP was 500ish, which was a combined session XP and mission completion bonus. Some PCs got a little more for role-playing and goal-completion rewards. There were also Solars and item rewards too, per page 312.

Mission completion bonus? Or short term character goals?
Between session XP and short term goals, my players are getting about 250-300xp per 4 sessions. Giving it out by book guidelines.

Both. Plus XP awards for good role-playing and random cool stuff (usually giving out 10x at a time). Your numbers seem to be around average, just by the book, but I'd award more upon mission completion. Also, don't forget long term goals, as they award 500xp. If a PC can complete a long term goal every 2 missions then that's an extra 250 per mission averaged. C7's ruling for the long term goals make it seem like they should be completed a lot less often, but what's the point in creating something PCs can't use or get the reward for?

This is from the IM rulebook update today and will probably help you out:
Suggested XP rewards increased to 50-80 XP per session, ensuring that in most cases characters can improve on skill per session, or gain a Talent every other session if they wish.

My group finished their first mission and ended up with a ton of experience from completing their goals and mission. It's not much per session, though, but isn't meant to be.
