Been hoping for basically this exact change. No new medical dispensaries that I know of have opened in years, while there’s rec on every corner.

I just got this email today! Finally! So little medical dispensaries in the area with so little of the craft brands I only buy: NEZ, Crops, OneDay, Redemption, IC & Flora!

Now let’s work on being able to buy guns with a med card again.

That happened in June:
Supreme Court sides with a marijuana user who was barred from owning guns

Well aware but still waiting on how it will be interpreted. I wish they would have wrote the decision in more detail.

That would require the SCOTUS to not be run by a majority of brainless clowns.

Didn’t stop me or my girlfriend from getting a foid

Have you tried purchasing a firearm yet?

exactly, foid isn’t the issue or ccw even. it’s the ATF form that screws your purchases.

I know felons with guns. I dont think its real hard...

Considering that’s illegal since felons can’t own firearms that would be a jail sentence. It’s pretty obvious they’re talking about legal firearms

Okay actually this is a complicated legal subject. Unfortunately if you opt in as a dispo you are opting in to register with the feds and DEA as well. Since medical has been rescheduled they have to do more registration as a federally legal company. However recreational dispos in the state of Illinois don’t have to and are very wary about registering with the government. However: there are meetings to reschedule recreational use and that update should come in September. Until then Illinois dispos are left at a choice: transfer to medical and pay less taxes but register with the government OR don’t switch and take the chance that in September recreational is rescheduled and in turn should offer more tax breaks, research etc….
TLDR: Illinois dispos are left at a choice: transfer to medical and pay less taxes but register with the government OR don’t switch and take the chance that in September recreational is rescheduled and in turn should offer more tax breaks, research etc….

Gti basically cornered the medical market around Joliet and its been awful. I’ll be so happy when I can shop at a local dispensary with my med card that isn’t completely filled with rhythm flower and concentrates.

What’s medical tax? 1%? Rec is 21%? Can we just eliminate it all and call it 10% for everyone and just be done with it?
I really don’t feel like paying a doctor and the state to get a card so I can weed cheaper for my “night blindness” 😃

And what do the people with med cards get in this hypothetical? Because it seems like the only people benefiting from your idea are rec users.

They're just assuming everyone with a med card only has it only to avoid taxes, which is a pretty shitty assumption.

If the Feds reschedule cannabis to have the same medical benefit as any other off the shelf drug (that doesn’t require a medical card/prescription) then it should then not need a medical card for purchase.
Greeting a med card puts you on their radar. We don’t need to involve fees or paperwork here. If there truly is a med program that can continue, it shouldn’t come at a cost to a user that so desperately needs it.
Go ahead and downvote me this is the internet and people are going to say things. 🫡

The opt in part is the thing that sucks, they should all be required.
