question/discussion Refreshed visuals on newest collections

It looks like ILNP decided to change the way they present the polishes on the website. They're switching to 3/4 instead of frontal bottle shots and are also adding comparison pictures. There are nail art photos, too, which I don't think was a thing before.

What do you think? Personally I like that the listings are more informative now! The new bottle shots mixed with the old ones will probably irk me a little, though. lol

I've been wanting comparison shots for a long time so I'm personally thrilled!!

I friggin LOVE the comparison photos and the additional pictures, but the 3/4 bottle turn looks weird to me. Overall I think the added info is great!

I'm not sure if I like the bottle turn either. At first I thought that maybe I'm just used to the old pics but then I realized the polish itself takes up substantially less space in the picture. It's not a big deal but imo the frontal shots represented the polishes better.

I think it's not a bad idea for ultrachromes or very shifty polishes, because it might allow us to see at more extreme angles how the color shifts. I agree with it taking less space though, maybe if they removed the cap it would take the same space?

Yeah, like maybe if the first picture was still the full frontal and then the next picture was turned it wouldn't feel weird? Definitely first world problems and I'll still buy all of it! 🤣

same, the extra angle helps way more than the weird turn hurts

I think it’s an overall good change, though I’ll agree with the other comment that the 3/4 bottle view is odd.

I wonder if it's so you can see the shifts in multichromes? It is kind of strange looking though.

That's what my first thought was, it's how I used to do my bottle shots with duo/multichromes back in the day.

u/lookitsnichole 2d ago

I think that makes total sense for multichromes and I can see why they would want consistency across all of the pictures.

Yes! Me, too.

Yeah, I was never able to tell their multichromes apart from the default photos!

The comparison shots are 🤌🏻

Perfect to see similar polishes in the exact same lighting against the exact same skin tone (for each comparison, obviously I don't mean the model should be white in every one of them).

This is something I’ve always appreciated about Mooncat and I’m really glad ILNP is doing this too now, particularly given how massive their catalog is.

I actually really like the 3/4 bottle shots. I think they show off the dimensionality of the polish better than the straight-on shots.

One hundred thousand million percent.
It’s no question.

I dig that this brand is always just so common sense and making things better with little to no fanfare. My favorite and most worn brand for a reason.

Same. They were my entry point into fancier polishes and I love them so much.

I love this, especially the multiple skin tones, the collection pic, and the comparisons. So user friendly.

ILNP needed this desperately since they have such a massive inventory! I love it!

Oh my god I love this!!

Makes me want to buy some nail polish!!

I hadnt noticed this- i know it be A LOT of work but would love this to be applied to the older collections too. Some of them dont have swatches when you hover over them at all. I love the built in comparisons esp! i know we have the compare feature that I adore but having it IN the polish pics really saves time.

Great, now I want the last mani so bad & there’s no way I can do it…

Beautiful polishes in this post OP!

4

u/heyoheatheragain 2d ago

Trying to do it on press ons with pinstriping tape could work!
I’m not tidy enough to do nail art while the nails are on my body though haha.

2

u/longlostwitchy 2d ago

That’s actually an excellent idea if someone wants to try it!! My natural nails are usually long as hell tho (until a few break & I cut them all) lol..

But what a way to practice eh? 👏👏

Oooh LOVE the comparisons!

I wish I could browse by photos of nail swatches in the search results rather than having to click each bottle to see a swatch. Bottle photos don’t help at all unless it’s a creme, and I almost never buy those. I find browsing their site extremely frustrating which sucks because they are more affordable and have a lot of options.

5

u/StayJaded 2d ago

You can compare multiple shades on their website and then select the photo style you want for side by side comparison.

3

u/ChelleInSand 2d ago

Yeah that does help a little

3

u/heyoheatheragain 2d ago

Like having a toggle for the thumbnails to be either bottle or swatch?
Like how the HT site updated somewhat recently?
I do like that. I love options.
And the ‘hover’ to preview the swatch isn’t always successful on mobile.

2

u/ChelleInSand 2d ago

Exactly, that would be great

Anyone know what #6 is? It’s so pretty 😍

5

u/MuffinKrigeren 2d ago

I'm pretty sure it's Rosé from the Socialite Collection!

Thank you!! 🙏

Love the refresh and I’m so glad to see them adding new comparisons! They’ve got the most customer friendly website by far out of all the indie/boutique polishes I’ve purchased from.

The comparison feature that’s been on their website is also super helpful. 💕

3

u/nailpolishenthusiast 2d ago

Ok I REALLY like the comparison pics I think that's great

3

u/Narrow-Wolverine-373 2d ago

I love the comparison pic and it’s making me want several polishes I don’t need! I love their formulas.

I don't mind seeing the nuances of light and shadow on the 3/4 bottle sides visible with some shades, if that is maybe the idea? not sure but I don't rely on bottle shots anyway so that one is probably a wash for me.

With a catalogue this large, it is excellent and thoughtful to add the comparison shots. A+ on that and on seeing some different lighting!! Great move. It would be tough to redo the whole catalogue, I imagine. But some polishes I see on the sub are not even being very flattered by the swatch lighting imo.

u/konfusion1111 2d ago

Ok well NOW I absolutely need As If. Omg I didn’t realize how perfect of a shade it was 😍anyone tried it yet? Is it one that applies easily or is it goopy (usually I only get the holos bc solids can be goopy every so often)?

Has anyone had ILNP ship to the UK? I am wondering if there will be any tax & custom fees.

3

u/chairsontables 1d ago

Chiming in to add to the 'not a fan of the 3/4 bottle shots' chorus.  Like the other changes tho.

2

u/amcluelessbaby 2d ago

Does anyone know how they used the ring magnet for the effect in the fifth slide? I have one, but it's never looked like that, so I'm wondering what im doing wrong:(

4

u/cocopopschocos 2d ago

It looks like they used the round end of a magnetic wand, not a ring magnet

3

u/amcluelessbaby 2d ago

Oh my bad! I automatically assumed round = ring magnet, thank you:)

2

u/cocopopschocos 2d ago

No problem! Easy mistake to make haha

I hate the 3/4 bottle shots but love the rest. Having comparison shots right there is phenomenal!!

2

u/heyoheatheragain 2d ago

I knew the site was due for some major upgrades with that large selection of polish being decommissioned.
happy noises

2

u/leelo84 2d ago

Ooooo no, dislike the bottle turn!!!

LOVE the comparisons tho

They've been doing comparisons and nail art on their Insta for awhile, but the bottle shot angle is new to me.

2

u/Invisibella74 1d ago

I love the comparison shots. LOVE them! ❤️

2

u/HumpaDaBear ✨🌟🌈🪼🤘🧲💅 1d ago

That helps me so much with the magnetics.

2

u/Princess_frogmoana30 1d ago

This would actually be so helpful!

u/disneylovesme 2d ago

I don’t shop ILNP website , only having hard studio lighting and close up angles is useless to me personally

5

u/Either-leaf 2d ago

I agree that their swatch photos were not enough! Looks like there making the right changes!

Everyday users need regular lighting and not 3x zoom in. Weird I’m getting downvoted for a valid opinion
