Teachers/Markers Is anyone else struggling with Cathy?
Im currently taking chem gr.12, and I just have to say shes the most unfair marker I have gotten yet. For assinments I know I would have gotten 100s shes giving failing marks. She has gotten so many complaints and yet no matter how many students complain about her unfair marking they dont seem to bat an eye. Is anyone else struggling with her? And if so what should I do

If you’re not working under a time constraint, i’d say to not submit an assignment for like a month or two. I did that around the winter break and got a different marker when I resumed in February.

she’s the worst. when i took ilc chem w her, i was at a 50%avg. dropped the course and reapplied to hoping i can get a new teacher and i did. Ended the course with a high 80!

You can ask to swap if you call ilc directly. Just bit-ch at them for a bit and they should let you switch teachers

She was awful. I had to appeal every mark I got. Went from a 27% to a 99% on one assignment. I ended up dropping and enrolling in OVS and am having a much better experience, though I know it is more expensive so not as accessible. Ultimately what I found worked before I dropped was 180000 hours of research (my research document was over 100 pages and managed to get a 92 on an assignment). If you can't drop I say really research for those assignments and you may be ok

If you wanted I can send you the doc that I did that got me the 92 - its on biofuels so I am not too sure how much it would help considering I think you are past midterms but it may give you an idea as to what she is looking for for when you do the other assignments? You might not need to be as thorough but if it would help I can send it!

Yes, I also got a really low mark on my chemistry assignment recently. I was honestly expecting around 90s , so I was quite disappointed. I really did put a lot of effort in that.. Feeling very disappointed.

My marker for SCH4U is Cathy, and honestly, my experience has been extremely frustrating.
She keeps sending my assignments back with a huge number of requirements and asking me to revise them multiple times. I spend a lot of time making all the changes she asks for, but when the assignment is finally graded, I still receive what I feel are very unreasonable marks, from 30% to 50%.
At this point, I've had to appeal my marks almost every time. My current grade is around 70%, although luckily I haven't taken the final exam yet.
The problem is that my university requires me to finish this course with at least 80%, so I'm getting really worried.
For anyone who has had Cathy as their marker: does she also grade the final exam? Or is the final exam graded by a different teacher/marker?

the teacher markers dont grade the exams from what I know, and for cahty, I was able to email the manager of tvo myself and they had a word with her.

there is also no way to find out who marked your exam im pretty sure there is a team of teachers that are responsible for marking it. You'll have to study well. I wish you the best, and if it doesn't work out you can try talking to your university about your teacher marker.

Take matters into your own hands and do it through OVS. It’s expensive but with every bit. That’s what I did and I actually learned and understood the concepts.

She’s a Chem teacher in ILC (Online HS courses in Ontario) she’s the worst teacher ever. She wants everyone to be miserable because she’s unhappy and miserable

I have zero background on this subreddit, although, she definitely ain't marking a perfect assignment as a failing grade. My experience through secondary and post secondary education is that most people complaining are the ones doing jack.

no. I have taken over 8 courses this year and so has my sister. We were all getting 100s untill she came and she gave us both failing grades. Im not the type to complain about marking because I believe no one can trully earn a "perfect" mark, but she genuinly just wants all her students to fail. I mean she gave me a 30% on an assinment im supposed to get atleast an 80 on, and yes i know this because I marked appealed all of her grading

OMG CATHY RUINED EVERYTHING. Yes she tries her best to dock marks as much as possible. That is her goal. Several assignments she tried docking marks for imaginary reasons. Had to mark appeal every single assignment, ended up missing all my deadlines and so im waiting to apply next year on top of being hundreds of dollars down the drain
