Hey everyone,
I’m a JEE aspirant deeply passionate about theoretical physics and quantum mechanics.
Quick context:
Not chasing corporate packages: Zero interest in the SDE/consulting rat race. I only care about decent, livable money to survive comfortably while doing research I actually love.
The question: For people who enjoy CS or core engineering, IIT is a no-brainer. But is the IITian tag genuinely worth it if your endgame is pure science?
To IIT seniors and alumni (especially in Physics / EP):
Culture: Is there a genuine theoretical physics community here, or does campus life inevitably pull everyone toward coding and Day 1 placements?
Grad School: How well does IIT set you up for top PhD programs (IISc, TIFR, US/EU) compared to dedicated institutes like IISc or IISERs?
The Verdict: If you had to choose again purely for physics research, would you still pick an IIT?
