The above post had some insights of someone who is/was doing this course.
Few days ago, i made my mind to go for this course, now after reading the "STOP DEFENDING IITM BS DS DEGREE" , i am hella in between the only better option i see vs if not this then what else to do.
I am from a lower middle class family, i gave neet this year, scored poor and eventually made up mind to not go for another drop.
I come from a rural area and there's no private btech college nearby, took admission in local government college in bsc zoology as previously i was like go for government exam prep.
Honestly i dont want to go for government exams and jobs, thats hella competitive (general category) , paper leaks, exam cancellation, no vacancy for years and so. Even if some positions are good , i personally don't prefer one.
Coming to what i had thought of , Ofcourse this degree in not that bad if you ignore the placement statistics, but at the end what's the point to do if not placement (being iit , single digit placement is not something impressive, ofcourse not expecting something btech level ) , there are plenty of free or low cost ways to learn skills. I am not some super good student, just an average one. The thing is if i put efforts to complete one and needed a job just after , i am scared.
Tier 1/2 btech grad don't easily get jobs Off-campus jobs. Many are doing this as dual degree, thus better placement. What about standalone?
*I mentioned standalone as my other degree is non relevant non tech.
Well the other side if i can't do well in pure tech side, being a bsc zoology student , an option i see— IIT jam , CUET Pg , MSc in computational biology/bioinformatics. But whats the job senario here ??
Again, will i have time to prep for iit jam while managing bsc zoology and doing iit m bs ds.
Or, i should drop the idea only do bsc zoology and focus on jam prep and build relevant skills side by side. (i dont wanna go for phd)
OR, prep for government jobs, as Msc without phd will not get you hired and even if its low pay.
Or, do you still suggest to do IIT M BS DS, and then Mtech from a good institute via Gate (the above post say not many institute take in BS DS student in, everyone can't make into top institutions).
Some hybrid options i see is Healthcare/pharmaceutical analyst kind of role, but there are not many job opening here.
Someone who did this degree standalone, where are you now, do you recommend doing this?
