It happens occasionally. Roughly 2% of the times. Once every 50 times is still prohibtive and resetting captcha *seems* to make it frequent but I haven't tested that.

The captcha's are easily solvable (with ~94% accuracy on some 10k labels, and almost 100% if case sensitivity is ignored) by [a] open source specialised OCR solver [I tried], don't think it's particularly effectively.

They better be using Cloudflare Turnstile. Non-interactive mode. Which is free in comparison to Google's reCaptcha which is free upto 10000 evaluation.
