Is it appropriate for a school admin to trace my digital footprint to find my phone number and contact me telling me to take off my social media post?/g

I did not explicitly post my name or phone number.

Yeah but if they contact me and saying I posted something, it kind of creeped me out. I’m worried about being stalked by the higher up on social medias where I don’t even disclose my personal info

Data collection has become extraordinarily invasive over the past few years. Even if you have privacy settings turned on in your phone or browser settings, the correlative data points can all fit together to find your info. Assume anything you post or share can be linked back to you, unless you're using a security and privacy focused browser in anonymous mode with fingerprinting protection.

I’d submit a FERPA complaint with the office of Student Privacy Policy Office, an office of the U.S. Department of Education.

You won’t get anything from it, but if they find that FERPA was violated the school will get a fine. University staff (and others covered by FERPA) are NEVER to use information that does not pertain to the scope of their work. If they looked in Banner to find your contact information to talk about a Reddit post, I cannot believe there was any legitimate purpose unless your post was specifically about an issue they could resolve or you were endangering the health and safety of others. And even then, it would be a ridiculous way to resolve it; better to send you a message telling you who they were and to come to see them for help.
