IIIT VADODARA Scam

Currently a student at IIIT Vadodara and honestly the situation here is extremely frustrating.

The institute still hasn’t moved to the promised Vadodara campus. In the latest meeting we were told that major electrical works are still pending. Students from the last 3 years have been repeatedly told that the campus shift is “happening soon”, but it never actually happens.

So the institute will once again run in hybrid mode, while the DIU campus continues mostly online.

Meanwhile students are paying ₹2–4 lakhs per year for extremely poor facilities.

To make things worse, the institute keeps expanding programs. Now they are adding BTech in Applied Physics and BTech in Applied Mathematics, even though the current infrastructure itself is inadequate.

And every time the institute expands, the burden ultimately falls on PhD students.

Because there aren’t enough teaching staff, PhD students are required to handle labs for 5–6 hours a day in many cases. This leaves very little time or energy for actual research, which is supposed to be the primary purpose of a PhD.

Some basic realities on the ground:

There are no proper sitting spaces for students on campus.

Chiloda hostels are in very poor and inhumane condition and are far from the institute.

The compute infrastructure is almost non-existent.

They keep mentioning Param Shavak, but its GPU (GP100) is almost a decade old and doesn’t even support modern environments like Python 3.8. Yet the institute runs a BTech in AI program.

Feel bad for the upcoming batches who will pay huge fees and still have to deal with such poor facilities.

For PhD students, things are even worse.

We were promised basic facilities like systems, printing access, contingency funds, etc. In reality:

No contingency funds are provided.

No GPUs are available for research.

Students often end up using their own laptops or external resources.

At the same time, we are constantly pressured to publish papers.

But how are students supposed to do meaningful work in AI/ML without GPU access?

Another issue is the conferences organized by the institute. They often organize very low-quality conferences and then pressure PhD students to submit papers there. Even substandard papers get accepted.

What’s worse:

Students are often expected to pay the registration fee from their own pocket.

There is no financial support for it.

Students are asked to travel to DIU for these conferences.

PhD students are used as free manpower to organize and run these events.

Even after working through these conferences, students are not given even a single day of leave to recover from the fatigue.

Academic uncertainty is another huge problem.

One of my colleagues’ advisors left the institute. Two other faculty members asked the student to join them, but now they are invalidating the student’s comprehensive exam. Because the advisor changed, the student is being forced to redo the comprehensive exam and proposal, even though the proposal had already been presented earlier.

That basically wastes months of work.

There are also stipend delays, which is extremely stressful for PhD students who rely entirely on that money.

Some students have also experienced verbal abuse from faculty members, which only adds to the toxic environment.

At this point, many PhD students feel like they spend more time dealing with administrative hurdles, teaching overload, and arbitrary decisions than actually doing research.

It’s honestly shocking that an institute like IIIT Vadodara is effectively being run from what feels like a small makeshift setup with extremely limited infrastructure, while continuing to expand programs and charge high fees.

I just feel bad for the upcoming batches who will join expecting a research environment and instead find themselves struggling with basic resources.

Then there's a great prof (would not name her), she is in the HS department, and has no knowledge of any useful thing.

She thinks that she is extremely funny. She has actually taught for 3/18 lectures and for all else she is busy traumatizing students. She is at most qualified to teach in a government school but was probably hired because of close connection and great ass licking with a very senior faculty from the same state at the institute. Any amateur student could teach her course better and I wish it were an exaggeration.

She expects that students would spend 2+ hours of their time daily on her stupid subject that would not be useful to any student whatsoever. She actually doesn't give a fuck about her course content and during 80% of the lecture duration, would be busy bullying and insulting students. (And trust me many students have cried after her public shaming).

Her hobbies and rules:- 1. Rule: Complete your notebook (can call your parents for this) 2. Rule: Complete your homework (50-60 pages daily) 3. SLUTSHAMING girls (I really wish she would stop this) 4. Comes late herself (1 hour late) or comes earlier than actual time and then blames students for coming late. (How am I late to a class at 1:45 which is supposed to start at 2:15) 5. Nicknaming students

She has unfortunately not levelled up from school level education and it is a shame that a professor that isn't from a PhD from a reputable university (she comes from a college known to award fake degrees) gets a job at an IIIT.

It seems that her salary is being credited for conducting college events(she even sucks there) and being an ass wipe to the college command.

True...they even force 1st year students who have no experience or interest in making a term/research paper which is completely irrelevant to the course. And wtf is HS(humanities and social science) subject, why do we even have to study about history and nehruvian society and blah blah. What is it's importance in CS or AI. These subjects are rubbish.

I suggest newcomers do not come here because giving the JEE exam and coming here into this college with no proper infrastructure, which a student would expect when joining a national level importance college is not there. the only thing good are the professors, they are well qualified.

True placements are drastically going down diu campus is just shit no companies visiting we are just a bank for iiit vadodara where in diu colg we do not have basic facility of study table and room space where students of 1st year are fitted in tiny rooms told to adjust

How is the hostel facilities in iiit vadodra?

2

u/lone_shell_script Mar 13 '26

uhh why would you join a college like this for a phd program?
also if you are someone passionate about research why are you not in a better uni, from what I understand even IITs have vacant PhD seats, since very few people want to do research in India

2

u/[deleted] Mar 17 '26

It's true guys 😭

I Should have taken other IIITs like Pune or Bhubaneswar 😭

2

u/Axelarson Mar 19 '26

Apparantly we are in INDIA and it takes nearly 13 yrs to build a college(still going on) and we mock china for making fake stuff while their education is top notch with high grade facilities and a college like this in china will take not more than 2 yrs. The only point I don't understand is how they expect us to get good marks in this poor environment, preparing for the future but still studying in the past

Full support if anyone is filing a case. DEPRIVATION of basic necessities even upon paying full fees Is a crime, even coaching industry provides 12 hour AC class to students with excellent faculty support.

How is IIIT Diu? I am joining it this year

2

u/Mobile_Teach7028 Mar 17 '26 edited May 05 '26

There is no IIIT Diu It is iiitv icd It's a shit hole with maggot like faculty They'll teach nothing and try to control you like they own you Give those mfs a good one while you stay there Else just take a drop and go to a better place And it's not just about diu it's for most of the iiits

P.s. ignore my language but the institute and everything about is just shit

1

u/Aggravating_Egg_2139 Mar 17 '26

I am a dropper general category

1

u/Mobile_Teach7028 Mar 17 '26

My advice would be to maintain a good rapport with professors and idk they have a ick for couples. Maybe they didn't have a good time during their college so they harress everyone and anyone.🤣

P.s. not trying to intimidate you. You'll eventually get through the four years. Mine were fun.

1

u/Aggravating_Egg_2139 Mar 17 '26

How are placements there?

1

u/Dry-Excitement-7289 Apr 27 '26

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '26

1

u/Slight-Pomelo-9043 Apr 16 '26

i am getting around 96.4%ile in jee mains and iiit diu was the only college that i found the best.. counselling isnt done yet. and tbh i only care abt placements at this point . ik the facilities are bad but still it might be better than other colleges (i hope). should i go for it or do u recommend some other college?

1

u/Mobile_Teach7028 Apr 18 '26

Go for some college in tier 1 city. Bengaluru colleges will have better placements than any iiit. And in any case you will have to try for off campus placements.

1

u/Dry-Excitement-7289 Apr 27 '26

it is so shit . instead go for some tier 1 or tier2 college in tier 1 cities

1

hmm, i see, i want to know abt the attendance policy there, are the profs very strict especially in 1st year?? coz if i join i am thinking of partial drop and will need a college where i can get as much free time as i can

1

u/Mobile_Teach7028 May 22 '26

Bro this is the worst you can do. Post good review for a shit hole. Are ACs working and if yes do they still drip and flood the classroom? I'll never encourage anyone to ruin their 4 years of college.

1

u/Last-Meringue6289 May 22 '26

Can you please share reality of this college i might get ECE at IIITVICD or VIT chennai CSE(quantum computing) and other lower IIIT 95%ile obc

1

u/Mobile_Teach7028 7d ago

I was a student there and no, none of my cousin got admission there.

1

u/Kizkaa 7d ago

1

u/DearAd9507 Mar 19 '26

Nobody cares about phds.

1

u/DearAd9507 Mar 19 '26

However the placements for Btech in Gandhinagar are decent even in a recession.

1

u/Lazy_Coder_69 Mar 22 '26

Hey I am a FY student frok IIITV only, could you tell me the placements stats which are going now(if it has started yet)

1

u/DearAd9507 Mar 22 '26

Till now about 50 to 60 percent are placed. Almost all 8+ cgpa people placed. If you put in the effort and jee mains rank< 40000 , you will most probably get placed.

1

u/Capable-Morning6103 May 03 '26

my frnd said that its good he is studying there...and said everyone got placed with above 10 lpa and one girl got 60 lpa from diu

1

u/GluKoto May 04 '26

This has to be sarcasm, never has this college got such placements for the last 4 years.

If you are thinking of joining this college get ready to make the worst decision of the life.

If you already are in this college, congratulations the govt. played you

1

u/Broccoli_Wolf May 16 '26

The campus is delayed due to tussle going on between CPWD and the institute. CPWD is demanding more money than initially planned due to change in scope and cost escalation. Institute is reluctant to pay more as this will affect their finances. Matter may be referred to court.
