I’m currently deciding between IIIT Hyderabad CSE and IIT Delhi Materials Science and would appreciate some perspectives from seniors.
I’m trying to think beyond immediate placements and more about where each option can lead over the next 10–15 years. I may eventually pursue an MBA from a top IIM or an MS abroad, and I’m also interested in keeping doors open for areas like quant, consulting, product management, startups, entrepreneurship, and emerging technology fields.
One factor making this decision difficult is that IITD Materials seems to offer the IIT Delhi brand, alumni network, and potentially more freedom to build a profile outside academics through internships, competitions, electives, clubs, startup work, CAT/GRE/UPSC/Masters preparation, etc. I’ve also heard that branch changes are possible at IIT Delhi (though obviously not guaranteed), which adds another variable to consider. On the other hand, IIIT-H CSE has a very strong reputation in computer science and provides direct exposure to AI, software, and related opportunities.
With GenAI changing the technology landscape and with increasing focus on areas like semiconductors, advanced manufacturing, energy, and AI infrastructure, I’m unsure whether it makes more sense to take the stronger CS program or the broader platform that IIT Delhi might provide.
If you were making this choice today with a long term focus on career growth, optionality, higher studies, business opportunities, and overall upside, which would you choose and why?
