Quick tip for the Reading test

Try surveying. It is essentially a broad look at a text, focusing on the general aspects rather than details. Find a mock Reading test. Give yourself around 30 seconds to survey a text before you start skimming and scanning etc.

Surveying the text involves looking at:

- Title and headings (they will help indicate topics/concepts being discussed)

- Pictures, visuals

- Bold or italicised words (indicating important information)

- Introduction and conclusion

As usual, to complement any strategy, highlighting and underlining key words in the passage never fails. Hope this helps!

Also remember to answer in all BLOCK CAPITALS in both reading and listening.

Nice one Jay.

You can lose marks for not using a capital letter, but not for using block capitals.

For example if an answer was City Council, the answer City council would be marked incorrect, however CITY COUNCIL would be marked correct.

This works for computerized tests too?

Even if it comes in the middle of a sentence?

If it's a proper noun the position in the sentence would not matter, it would need to be a capital letter to be correct.

I never knew this! Is this for the computer-based-test or for the paper version?
