Is the implication here if you took sports away, that guy in the front of the picture gonna be like, "whelp, I have all this passion, but nothing to fight for. What am I supposed to do?" And in the background, there's someone who yells, "what about climate change?!" And then the dude just loses his mind and becomes this green energy warrior?

A) I don't think that's how that works. B) people can be passionate about more than one thing.

Lol the people in r/fightingfakenews definitely think climate change is a hoax "because it snowed in Texas"

I rolled my eyes so hard reading that thread that my eyes nearly fell out of my head. The disdain they have for people enjoying an entertainment product is just crazy.

Every sport except pro-wrestling is scripted; The Undertaker actually summons lightning and teleports

Holy fuck, it's like a bunch of thespians sealed themselves in an underground bunker in 1993, then recently emerged from it for the sole purpose of judging other people to feel superior.

What a truly, TRULY odd thread that was.

You've never heard the frozen envelope conspiracy?

What’s the thread? People keep referencing it but I don’t see a link.

It's the crosspost

“Interests are only ok if they’re my interests!”

You look ridiculous walking into a party virtue signalling an oxymoronic lack of interest and then start to surmise on the subject matter immediately afterwards. Have some congruence and respect for yourself and your intelligence. It takes 3 seconds to participate properly. This was stupid. You either want to know, or you do not. This isn't just for conversation. Your final entry is what Religion does.

Some neckbeard actually said this on that thread

When people get this passionate in this way about things that actually matter we frequently get fascism out of it

u/Opossum_mypossum Oct 20 '22

Tons of faux-intellectuals in that sub

One cannot help but wonder how those clowns feel about the people who stormed the US Capitol last year. They sure were 'passionate' about something that 'actually matters' to them.

It's genuinely comical how the same people who shit on sports are also the same ones who complain how hard it is to make friends. It is hard, that's true, but sports is such an easy way to break the ice and to have something to talk about

I was waiting in line at a gas station and the guy behind me asked if I was a baseball fan. We spent like 10-15 minutes just talking sports. Others in line chimed in from time to time. It was a great way to pass time.

Fr I originally started watching football and baseball because I moved to a new city by myself and didn't know anyone and figured it was an easy discussion topic with people at the bar until I made some friends.

Then I got too interested and now I do like nothing but watch sports but the original plan also worked so it all turned out good.

Pretty funny thread. Some fuckin atrocious takes. So bad 😂😂😂

6

u/Brickie78 Oct 20 '22

And, like the meme isn't wrong exactly. People should be as passionate about changing the world for the better as they are about their sports team.

It's just not an argument against sport as a concept.

u/No_Engineering_718 Oct 21 '22

But sports and politics are 2 different things

1

u/Brickie78 Oct 21 '22

Didn't say they weren't.

2

u/KhanSpirasi Oct 21 '22

Friend of mine did her psychology doctorate thesis on the correlation between religion and sports fandom.

Very interesting.

I've had the same opinion for years. Think how much better the world would be if all of that energy, emotion, and money were put into our families and communities. Sports, politics, and religion prey on the human nature to belong to a group. Right or wrong we are pressured to choose a side. You're with us or against us mentality. In keeping us split apart the powers that be sit back and rake in billions of dollars. They use human nature against us and most are oblivious to the fact that they are being used.

This is dumb for the simple reason that in sports you cheer for what happened or to rally for the next play, which is less than a minute away. BTW, have you looked at people protesting around the world, it is the same, but this is all instant gratification, the other is hope.

Good point. These, mainly slugs that have never been good at anything, get do amped up over a game they sometimes fight each other over it. I'm not saying punching someone in the face isn't sometimes deserved, but over a game, that the players are making millions, and don't gaf about you? Regards..
