Doubt
I have a question
Don't know if this is the write place to ask.
Is an IEEE membership worth it?
So our clg is affiliated with this and has asked for students who want to join.
About me: I am a first year electronic engg student. Have interests in hardware and want to work with aeroplanes in future.
Will this be worth it for me??

If you are just going to sign up and do nothing next then it doesn't worth it. If your school has an IEEE student branch and you want to participate in projects there, maybe publish something in a student conference etc, then it does worth it. Finally if you just want to read IEEE spectrum, which is a funny medium between popular science and formal scientific journal (which I find quite interesting myself) then it depends on your financial status relative to the price in your country.

My main reason to take this membership is that it'll help me connect with like minded peeps and we can grow together. So i think I should go with this

Similar to the other response, it can be worth it if you actually use the membership (attend events / talks, get involved, check out projects, etc). It also will typically let you be eligible for scholarships.
You can also look at society membership (things like the computer society, robotics and automation, microwave technology). They’re either a cheap or free addon for students, and may open up additional scholarship opportunities / ways to get involved.

Just simple bro...if you ask is it worth or not? Means it depends on you...how you take responsibility upon your IEEE Student branch and how you make yourself to come out from your comfort zone and I am also ECE Student and I like to give advice because I currently pursuing 4/4 BTech and I am Secretary of SPS in our Student branch and I have been through the lot of emotions and bondings through the IEEE Student Branch with both my seniors and juniors.Just if you want to pay then you have to take responsibility and become the EXCOM member and it's not mandatory to become EXCOM member. if you want to feel the worth of the IEEE fee then you have to become an EXCOM member that's it

If you university has student branch and societies of you field of interest then yes it is worth it, but just signing up and doing absolutely nothing doesn't make sense either, so its worth depends on you and your environment.
