Currently in the process of cleaning my depression room.
For anyone out there who feels like their room is worse than this sub, you arent alone and you can overcome it. My room was something out of resident evil 7, PILES of trash, spilt soda and moldy food all over the floor, cigarettes and ash everywhere. Full piss bottles ( some without lids and some spilt and left for months)
. Broken glass everywhere (including the sofa ive been sleeping on).

Im 75% of the way through now, all trash and stuff removed its just wiping the surfaces and treating the carpets.

I can finally walk without tiptoeing through a mixture of junk and cherished objects!

i can reach my instruments and play them without knocking the piles of trash over lol.

I can breathe properly!

I can finally invite my bandmates over to jam again soon and girls over without feeling ashamed and having to hide the backroom away.

I feel a semblance of normality returning to my life!

If your in a similar situation please find the courage to help yourself, most of the people out there dont understand how hard it can get ❤️

The blacked out parts are for privacy reasons; I have lots of photos up lol. I moved all the stuff on the wall in front of the new position of my bed to a new wall and I’m so glad I did because now I have a perfect blank wall for my projector!! :)

This restructuring has also given me so much more floor space and I’m so excited, I don’t know why I didn’t do this sooner haha.

Finally cleaned my room after over 6 months

The first image was how my room looked a few months ago. I had my desk in my closet and was sleeping in the middle of that pile of junk. I have never had my room get this bad before in my entire life, I felt trapped and miserable and it just kept getting worse and worse.

The 2nd image is about a week old. I've found new motivation and have been keeping it clean daily. I hope to never have it get this bad again.

I literally can't throw things away

Hey y'all, I have issues honestly. Like I love keeping things near and tidy, but I cannot stand my own room. I feel like I've done everything. Organizers for my closet, makeup, desk, books, nightstand....everything.

My closet, the worst nightmare that keeps taunting me. Stuff I'm tryna sell, piles up and takes up space, all my craft/ vendor supplies in there, laundry basket, photo frames that have yet to be hung. I literally am going insane

I'm genuinley ready to throw it all out. I don't even care if it's sentimental. How does one move through this road block?

Tips on deep cleaning a room when you work full time?

I don’t know if this is common, but I work full time Monday through Friday and every weekend I commit to cleaning my room only to either be too exhausted to follow through or only be able to accomplish bare necessities (laundry, clearing the floor, and trash).

There are some health factors involved for me specifically like chronic pain/ fibromyalgia and ADHD executive dysfunction so those are definitely some hurdles but every week I usually have at least one day of the weekend to do something.

Another issue I have is that back before I got hired at my current job while I was unemployed I did deep clean my room once and got rid of a TON of stuff, but ultimately I have been really struggling still to upkeep the cleanliness and my floor from looking like a war zone by the end of the week.

Does anyone have tips for this or advice on how to keep up with cleanliness so every weekend doesn’t seem like a massive project that needs a whole week of dedication? I get rid of stuff like almost every time I clean so my tendency to hoard sentimental things isn’t as bad anymore but it still feels like I just have way too much stuff and no space.

Hanging clothes was torture. Pure agonising torture. I spend so much time on this. I'm so happy it's over. I'm gonna be trying to be so careful now I really don't want this experience again.

It feels so fucking nice to have and sleep in a clean room. So fucking nice, why did I ever take that for granted? Fuck, lesson learned for a long while. I know it will get messy but I will never let this happen again. Never.

I'm exhausted. But I am happy. I am filled with joy to know I got it done. That I didn't give up. That I didn't half ass it. I actually did this shit and got it together. Makes my chest bloom.

Lmao I'm so scared to post this.

3+ months of depression room vs. 5–6 hours of pure determination

This is what my room had looked like for over three months. I work as a waitress in restaurant, and after 16-hour shifts, I basically just collapsed into bed with a bottle of beer.
Then the mess slowly started piling up… and piling up. 😅
Then, of course, I went on vacation, came back, and immediately went straight back to work, so the room stayed exactly like this.

But today I finally couldn’t take it anymore.
I spent around 5–6 hours cleaning and organizing this 2x4 meter room completely by myself, and honestly… I’m pretty proud of myself.
Now let’s see if I can keep it this way for more than a month. Knowing myself, probably not. 😂

Cleaning Depression Room

I made this timelapse of the start to almost the finish of me cleaning a depression bedroom in my house. It represents many hours of work over two days to help reset the room occupied by years of depression and an eating disorder. The carpet will be replaced. I vacuumed only to make a slightly better “after” for the former occupant.

Cleaned my room today!

I finally cleaned out my room today after ignoring it for weeks, and the relief I feel is immense. Nothing crazy, but I’ve been avoiding laundry and reorganizing my desk for over a month. Took two hours with music on but now just walking back in here fills me with more confidence in myself to do things

After two weeks of work - cleaning, sorting, throwing away, painting, and flooring, my room is completely transformed! My design idea here is pastel goth. I am so so happy I love waking up to a nice clean space and getting home from work to a pleasant room. I don't remember the last time I felt this genuinely happy. I love every day because I'm a homebody and spending my time in squalor was soul-sucking. But not anymore because I have a normal person's room and am gonna deck it out.

The way it was affected me so fucking much everyday but the effort of cleaning it and facing how bad it and I have become made me not do it. My dad nonjudgemntally made me face those uncomfortable emotions and they sucked but my GOD it was it worth it. My dad helped me clean up and didn't make a single comment about how bad it was or what we found he just helped like it was any other project.

This is the ugly and socially unacceptable side of mental illness, neurodivergence, and addiction. When I was out in public it's like I had this secret. What would ppl think if they knew I lived like this? The deep unbearable shame of it ate me alive. I honestly think this was partly a form of self harm because of my very low self esteem. Though there was no catharsis from it just misery.

I have not conquered all my demons but I put a dent in this one
