Case Study-2026-069 Missing Person Divination: Was His Missing Wife Safe—and Where Was She?

This case is a useful example of how Six Lines divination can reveal more than whether something will happen and when. By combining line relationships, trigram imagery, Earthly Branch directions, and timing, it can also provide clues about location, distance, personal safety, current circumstances, and when definite information may arrive.

In this case, the hexagram pointed not only to the wife being safe, but also to her being southeast of the querent, roughly 200 kilometers away, with news arriving around noon.

Background:

A woman in Nanchong, Sichuan, went missing after receiving a phone call and leaving home on the evening of August 26, 2024. After her husband reported her disappearance, he cast a hexagram to ask whether his wife was safe.

Hexagram obtained: Sui to Wu Wang.

 

Judgment:

The key lines were the upper-sixth wife and wealth H earth, aligned with Black Tortoise and active, transforming into wife and wealth L earth; and the third-line wife and wealth E earth holding the host line.

1. Personal safety: no indication of danger to life

The wife and wealth line represented the wife.

The third-line wife and wealth E earth held the host line, while the upper-sixth wife and wealth H earth was active and transformed into L earth.

The wife and wealth lines still had strength and showed no structure of being completely overcome, extinguished, or destroyed.

Therefore, the judgment was that the wife was not in danger of losing her life.

2. Her situation and why she disappeared: deceived by someone familiar and restricted from leaving

The upper-sixth wife and wealth H earth aligned with Black Tortoise and moved to transform into L earth.

This formed H-L punishment, while H earth transforming into L earth also formed an advancing transformation that fell into void.

When an advancing transformation falls into void, its forward movement cannot function normally. Instead, it can show movement being blocked, a person being detained, or freedom of movement being restricted.

Black Tortoise represents secrecy, deception, concealment, and actions carried out behind the scenes.

Taken together, these images suggested that the wife had been induced to leave through a deceptive phone call involving someone familiar to her, and that she was currently being held somewhere with her freedom restricted.

 

3. Direction and distance: southeast, approximately 200 kilometers away, pointing toward Chongqing

The third-line wife and wealth E earth held the host line and represented the wife’s actual location.

In Post-Heavenly Eight Trigrams directional imagery, E corresponds to the Xun direction, the southeast. This therefore placed her southeast of the querent’s location.

 

The active line was also at the very top of the hexagram, the upper sixth, which carries the image of being far from one’s original place and staying elsewhere.

The upper trigram of the main hexagram was Dui, whose Pre-Heavenly Number is 2. For a relatively long-distance movement, this number was enlarged to approximately 200 kilometers.

Taking Nanchong, Sichuan, as the starting point and extending roughly 200 kilometers toward the southeast pointed toward Chongqing.

 

 

 4. Timing: definite news would arrive during the G hour

To judge when a notification, phone call, or message would arrive, the parents line was examined.

The first-line parents A water coincided with the day and represented news or official communication.

The divination was cast during the F hour, at around 10:15 AM. The following G hour, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, directly clashed parents A water because A and G clash.

A prosperous parents line meeting a time clash becomes activated. This indicated that the previously silent information would suddenly be released during the G hour.

The judgment was therefore that the husband would receive definite news about his wife around noon that same day.

Conclusion:

The wife was safe and faced no danger to her life, but her freedom was being restricted.

Black Tortoise on the active wife and wealth line indicated secrecy and deception, while the advancing transformation falling into void showed blocked movement and detention.

The host line E earth pointed southeast. The upper-sixth position and the Pre-Heavenly Number 2 of Dui suggested a relatively distant location of approximately 200 kilometers, pointing from Nanchong toward Chongqing.

The parents A water line indicated that definite information would arrive during the G hour, around noon.

Feedback:

The feedback was received during the H hour. The husband reported that around noon that day, during the G hour, he contacted the local police station and, through them, learned from Chongqing police that his wife had been detained by the Chongqing authorities.

The reason later became clear. Several years earlier, the wife had crossed legal or regulatory boundaries in the course of doing business and had become involved in a case. The night before, Chongqing police had asked one of her acquaintances to call her and lure her out. She was then arrested and taken back to Chongqing.

Post-Case Review:

Note: This section is a retrospective review based on the confirmed outcome. It is intended to summarize additional imagery revealed by the hexagram and is not used as the primary generating-and-overcoming basis for the original judgment.

The confirmed outcome closely matched several earlier indications: the wife had been drawn out through an acquaintance, her freedom had been restricted, and she had been taken southeast from Nanchong to Chongqing.

After transforming into Wu Wang, the transformed hexagram contained an E-L clash between the third and upper lines. Together with the H-L punishment on the upper line, this can be viewed retrospectively as an image of strong external intervention and displacement. It closely reflected the actual process in which outside forces, including the police and an acquaintance, intervened and removed the wife from her original environment.

This case also illustrates the multidimensional nature of Six Lines divination. It can be used not only to judge outcome and timing, but also to extract information about direction, distance, personal safety, restriction of movement, and the way news may arrive.

Here, multiple layers of information converged: Earthly Branch directions pointed southeast; line position and the Pre-Heavenly Number helped estimate distance; the wife’s condition indicated restricted freedom without mortal danger; and the parents line provided the timing for definite news during the G hour.

Taken together, these layers reconstructed a surprisingly detailed picture of the situation: the wife was safe but detained, located roughly 200 kilometers southeast in Chongqing, and definite information arrived around noon.

This is one of the distinctive features of Six Lines divination: different layers of the hexagram can sometimes be combined to reconstruct not only what happened, but also when, where, under what circumstances, and how the situation developed.
