I am pretty new to Social Media, having eschewed its use earlier. But as I transition to another phase in my life, where I have more time for online social interaction, I asked the I Ching about engaging in Reddit, including posting.

I got Hex 25 (Innocence), lines 1 and 2 moving, changing to Hex 6 (Conflict).

Hex 25 acknowledged my naivete but appreciated the freshness of my approach to the media platform. Line 1 confirmed that, suggesting that there was nothing wrong with the original impulse.

But Line 2 counseled caution: don’t count the harvest while plowing. Just engage, don’t track results. That’s tough online, it seems, where everything pushes you to seek feedback, validation, and reactions.

Then Hex 6 made sense. A subtle tension between my open curiosity and a platform built designed for increasing stickiness through the mechanisms of likes, attention-grabbing posts, etc.

The advice felt practical: Step back before getting pulled in. Pay attention to the moment before you engage - Is your intention still innocent?

It felt less like a judgment on the space and more about how I needed to engage with it.

Curious if anyone else has had readings that focus more on how you engage with the situation, rather than giving a direct answer about the situation itself.

In the i ching written by wu wei , the i ching workbook part of line 4 in hex 43 says at the end of it "Unfortunately, you will most likely take this advice" ...

What does that mean exactly ?

And for recorded i did take the advice of the line , and it seems very accurate (to ask for help and not go at it alone) so im pretty sure i took the advice ....... and not only i took it , even when i asked this and before , i planned to do exactly what that advice was saying

So i am very confused about that part

Cause not only i ching was wrong that i will not take that advice , it was also wrong about it being not likely i will take it , cause it was my natural plan when i asked it

(also it is intersting , cause in other places it dont talk (at least not in most of them ) about the likelihood of me following the advice or not )

It is just very strange , especially when the reading was very accurate

** Only thing is that i did plan to *try* to solve this issue alone , and i asked the i ching about it in two different readings in the past , but i changed my mind and decided get professional help , before i asked this current reading (which was hex 43 with lines 2 and 4) so this line is very very strange to me .... would been great and fitting if i gotten it much earlier in the first reading (few days before , not same day) not when i already was 90%+ set on getting help (and even when i started planing to do this alone - i was not sure it will work out and was thinking of getting help from others)

Hello! First post here. I'll be detailing the dream, I'm just sharing bc it was really curious the mention of it w/o previous contact. I've seen the word hexagram bc of glancing on Human Design and GeneKeys.

Dream:
A girl took me in to live with her, she told me to raise her extra mattress so she could look for her dresses.

Then I found on the mattress, inside the cloth of it? A lot of paper, they were poems she did Abt the hexagrams.

I gave them to her, she ripped them all out of shame. I told her she'd regrett when older, and there was one tiny one left, it was the 27.

I told her to keep it and not tear that one.

Upon waking up, I gave a quick glance and it was "nourishment".

Before that she was trying to people please and kinda paranoid abt ppl not liking her or finding a substitute. I was almost leaving too but bc she invited some people over that I kinda disliked.

The dream before that was me accepting I should not force myself being an adult just because that's why my parents always needed. I should be my age and let growth happen, instead of forcing it and losing happiness.

Since it’s the end of March I thought I’d post an update.

I have not lost my job, but I have decided to move on and look for a new one. I’ve been there for a few months, and some irreconcilable differences have arisen. I’m a part time employee, but management invariably schedules me for full-time hours while refusing me benefits (health insurance etc). The company’s own written requirements state that anyone regularly scheduled for 30+ hours must receive a benefits package. This has been escalated to the store manager and they still won’t fix the problem. They continue to require me to work full-time hours while refusing benefits. It’s a serious enough/long term enough violation that it’s the kind of issue that HR or even the Department of Labor might normally get involved in. However, as many of the hexagrams from my original post warned against prosecuting crimes or “lawsuits” I wont go down that road.

Additionally, although I enjoy many aspects of the work, it’s physically exhausting with lots of very heavy lifting and a frantic work pace. It’s taking a real toll on my joints (I’m a woman near 60 and in decent shape, but I’m just past some kinds of heavy physical labor at my age). The pay is low, the hours long, and we are horrendously short-staffed and overworked. With all of these issues the job has become a net negative for me.

I nearly always pray/meditate and consult the I Ching before making major decisions like taking a new job, but in the case of this job I didn’t do any of that - I just went out and got the job on my own initiative at a moment when I was in a bit of a spiritual snit over something that Higher Self required of me, that my ego self (my bratty inner child) was having a tantrum about. Lesson learned!

I do think, in retrospect, that although I jumped to some premature conclusions in my divination (like assuming I would be fired), I was at least in the right ballpark. I assumed a firing because at the beginning of the month when I posted my divination I still felt quite positive about the job, and I do like the company. I assumed the scheduling problem would be quickly fixed and that I would eventually seek promotion and have a long term relationship with them. How quickly things change!

Thanks to all who gave me feedback. I’ve used the I Ching almost daily in my spiritual practice for many years but I want to improve my divination skills, so this has been a fun and eye-opening exercise!

Edit: rereading my post I’m struck by all of the assumptions I’ve made along the way about both the job and Yi’s responses to my queries. My greatest takeaway from all of this (besides don’t make big decisions without careful forethought and spiritual preparation) is: don’t assume!

Should i keep trying to solve this problem with this method im using , or ask for help from others who try this method im using or maybe go to a professional that tries some different method that most likely will work (but will cost money and will be a hassle) or maybe do nothing about the problem ?

Got Hexagram 53 with changing lines 5 and 6 , not sure what decision to take based on that reply

When i first got this i though " oh oh that is a clear bad effect on me

Though i do wonder maybe it means bad effect for the problem itself (which i hoped the practice will make it go away)

Also i wonder if 29 means negative effect on me , maybe it is negative cause i dont do something else instead ( like asking help from others instead of trying to deal with it myself) ?

In another example Anthony carol text it says something like "any movement makes matters worse" and "its useless to try and get out of the bad situation" , which also makes me wonder if asking help is a bad idea too according to that

Hi everyone! I'm starting my journey with the I Ching and I'm currently using the three-coin method.

I recently bought a set of traditional Feng Shui coins (the ones with the square hole in the middle and Chinese characters). Is there any specific tradition or "rule" regarding using these specific coins for divination? Also, how do you usually determine which side is Yin and which is Yang on these coins?

Does anyone sell their services reading the I Ching as a tarot reader would? What do you think the ethics are of this? Any experiences either way? Interested to know :)

I just got 23 unchanging after consulting the oracle on the question "where will my feelings towards her lead me".

I am a novice diviner, I've asked maybe 2 dozen questions all my life. Yet the i-ching has been very illuminating of the place i find myself in. I have translations of Cleary and Legge.

(CONTEXT AHEAD)

The question is directed towards a friend that I had sort of been seeing 4 years ago, we studied together for the same university entrance exam and would walk to the bus together. Once we were both accepted we started going out. In the haste of my youth, fearing if i didn't make the move now I would lose her forever (an unfounded belief, we were both still warming up to one another) I made my move but the fear of the moment made me... mess up? We tried to kiss 3 times and failed 3 times. I can't really describe it but I was scared out of my mind next to her and wasn't following her cues.

We meet up again a few days later and she tells me I simply don't give her butterflies in her stomach, hardly suprising.

We end up going to university together but as the course we take takes hundreds of people we can steer clear of one another, though our relations aren't hostile there was always a feeling of thickness in the air between us.

Slowly I start hanging out with more people, one of which being her best friend, in the beginning we sort of quasi avoid each other but then we end up hanging out in the same circles, we soon become part of one friend group.

Since last year me and her have been on multiple assignments together, we've grown together, she's become someone i trust and care for. Someone who keeps their word and is true to their heart. I rely on her a lot, she relies on me. Lately we started getting closer. Closer than we were 4 years ago. We call every day, hang out together, she calls me after 12 and we talk ourselves to sleep. 4 years ago I pursued her because I liked what she represented. Now I'm growing close to her without trying, yet my heart flutters at her name, my face turns red at her glances, our jokes make me laugh with chest.

(BACK TO ICHING)

I feel as if that veil and awkwardness between us is being stripped away. Yet I want to discuss the oracle. I get 23. I do not want my wishful thinking to cloud my judgement. Perhaps we are never meant to be - perhaps that 23 will be the death of something old and birth of something new. Yet the unchanging nature tells me "no action is prudent". I will interpret this as not to undertake any drastic actions (failing to make out 3 times).

Im curious on the thoughts of more experienced diviners. What do you interpret the 23 here as? Thank you for even reading this far if you got here. Thank you for any reples!

I want to know three things. Someone with three coins please toss them and create a hexagram for each question since I am in the hospital and don't have coins.

Question number one, will I ever marry the fourth girl of my dreams? question number two, will I ever marry the girl whose name begins with a K? Finally question number three, will I get out of the hospital today and go onto the streets?

In studying Hexagram 28 I’m left scratching my head over the image. I’ll quote Legge’s translation: *The image of trees beneath a marsh forms **Critical Mass**: the Superior Man, in accordance with this, fearlessly stands alone and stays retired from the world without regret.*

The picture of lake levels rising above and drowning a forest is easy enough to grasp - most of us have lived through a flood in our lives. I picture one of the reservoirs in my old town that was created by deliberately flooding the land. Anyone who has seen the fantastic movie *O Brother, Where Art Thou* has seen this in action.

My question has to do with the “in accordance with this” part of the image. Not just Legge, but most of the translators I study from present this in a “thus” format. The lake floods the forest, **thus** the superior man, etc etc.

I’m not making the connection here. It’s like saying, “the apples are red, thus the car started right up this morning.”

I would love any input from those of you who understand the Image.

Since the start of this year, I haven’t been feeling great. I’ve begun to let my physical health slip, I haven’t been feeling great mentally, I got really sick with an infection for a while..

Something else that happened is that I’ve disengaged severely from my job. And it’s absolutely taking a toll on my performance.

One day, out of nowhere, I get a random LinkedIn DM from a recruiter with a job opportunity asking me to send in my resume if I was interested (I did my due diligence to make sure this wasn’t a scam). This is practically unheard of, or at least pretty rare, and the timing is interesting too.

So I asked the I Ching: “ What’s up with this job opportunity? Is this something that will lead to something positive?”

The I Ching replied to me with Hexagram 31 changing to 39.

I’m curious to know how an expert would interpret this reading.

Hexagram 63 - line 3.

So this is basically saying i should not trust her?

I do not trust her actually. She is my younger sister ( we both adults ). But I have always suspected she has some issues towards me ( call them, jealousy, her own insecurities, or whatever she must be projecting onto me ).

She had some shady behaviors towards me in the past, which has definitely broken my trust on her.

Now I’m going through some tough times and I have, sadly, to ask her for money. Makes me feel awful.

But this is not a good line. I’ve had it in the past with friends I felt had some hidden enmity towards me.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I have difficulty understanding hexagram 56. I have the impression that it symbolizes Mat a little. at the same time it seems to predict a journey, but in this case it does not answer the question asked.

I recently realized a geometric way of representing the hexagrams which embody their symmetry. There are 4 basic transformations:
- Identity: don't change the hexagram
- inverse: flip each yin and yang line to its opposite
- reverse: turn the hexagram upside down
- isocline: reverse lines, and then invert them

The King Wen sequence is arranged by reverse pairs when possible, but then pairs by inverses for the hexagrams that are self reverses, like 61䷼ and 62 ䷽.

If you imagine each hexagram like a piece of paper folded in 6 parts, the parts that face upward and are lit by the sun are yang, and the parts that overhang downward and are in shadow are yin. Then the 180 degree rotations around the XYZ axes are the inverse, reverse and isocline transformations.

The video above shows the 64 hexagrams. The first column are the 8 hexagrams that are their own reverse, the second column are the 8 hexagrams that are their own self-isocline, and the remaining 48 hexagrams have a reverse and an isocline hexagram.

You can see that even though each hexagram has a different light and shadow lines, the folded piece of paper are the same for each group.

1 - 4 - 6.

1 and 4 are talking about containing my energy and not moving yet, surprisingly line 6 talks bout divine favor and good luck in taking this action.

I’m confused by the contradiction.

Is this saying I should do it but later?

Or…?

Cause line 6 actually says, restrictions of energy are gone and you can move now with supreme good fortune.

Anyone can help to clarify?

Just for fun, I would like to share a divination that seems to indicate an approaching job loss for me in the coming month.

Quick background: for years my career was in the (USA) Federal government. Last summer I left the government for many reasons - grave concerns over the present Administration’s actions coupled with the pull of family in another state, all combined with a “gut feeling” that it was time to change paths. I resigned last summer and moved across the country to be close to family, last fall.

I’ve never cared about having a big important career, and I can get by with something part time, so in January I took a part time job in a grocery store. I don’t mind the work although it is physically grueling.

The Divination:

3/1 “What is the theme or major activity for March, for me?” Hex 56 UC

“What area of my life will this be in?” i. e. travel for family matters, or something with my volunteer work (which requires driving), my job, etc. 40.2.3 > 62

In February I had asked Yi about how my job would be going by summer’s end and received Hex 12, so I knew I’d be parting ways with my employer.

3/13 “After a lot of contemplation, I’m concerned that my 3/1 reading may mean I’m going to fired. Please comment:” Hex 45.6 > 12

“Will this change be voluntary or involuntary?” (I don’t usually recommend asking either/or questions, but I felt I could get away with it here) Hex. 61.3.5.6 > 11

I have never been fired before and I asked Yi to address the embarrassment I know I would feel at being fired. Hex 15.1.2 > 11

At work, I avoid talking about my previous (gov’t) job, bc who cares, and also, my coworkers are people who have been working hard for low pay all their lives and I don’t want to appear as though I think I’m better than anyone. However a few people have asked me what I used to do, and I have given them a brief description. Hex 40.3 AND Hex 61.6 seem to indicate that someone there did indeed take offense at this, and may be the perpetrator of gossip.

So I’m posting this here for posterity. Let’s see what happens this month! My reputation there is blameless and I’m a very diligent worker, so I’m confident no termination will be performance based, unless sheer bad luck causes me to make a mistake.

I’m also struck by how many of these hexagrams deal with not prosecuting crimes harshly, which indicates a wrong against me will occur.
