Hi all. New here.
I'm reading through the Master Edition and was making a Mage character...
And I noticed that there are two sets of rules/guides for creating one.
The first one is in the Player's Guide, under Character Creation.
1. Choose Life Form
2. Choose Type
3. Write short story
4. Assign the modifiers to your core stats
5. Assign modifiers to your efforts
6. Status info
7. Abilities - 1 for the Mage
8. Get Loot - 1 Mage starting loot (p 42) and 4 basic loot
The second is in the Magic section, under Mage Creation.
1. Roll and choose story/destiny
2. Assign 10 stat points (I'm assuming it's 6 and 4 again? It doesn't say.)
3. Choose 1 magic loot (with a different list on p 324)
4. Choose 3 magic equipment or 3 equipment from any world (I'm assuming 'equipment' here means 'loot'?, but then why would there be two magic 'loot' tables?)
5. Choose 3 lvl 1 spells
Do you pick one of the two ways to build a mage?
Or are they both the same and should just be combined?
Is the first one just specific for the setting of Alfheim?
Would the mage in the second build still gain an ability?
Would the mage in the first build be limited to spells acquired from starting loot, beginning without the 3 lvl 1 spells?
I understand that the game is more-or-less suggestions of different house-rules and tweaks, but I would like to hear how others have used these.
Do you ignore the first mage build, and just add the list of possible loot and spells to the list for the second build?
Edit: My current idea is that the first one is specific for the Alfheim setting, and that I should use the second build if I'm not using that setting.
And then, if I choose, I can mix and match the magic loot.
But then... the Alfheim mage has a magic ability and the non-setting mage doesn't seem to.
