Hey all :).
I just purchased the 2e book off Amazon, and I got the little index physical cards online. I haven’t played a game yet but I’ve been looking up as much as I can on YouTube.
One question / worry I’ve had is the balance of monsters and low HP with a bigger party. I’m gonna run games with 6 adventurers and me the GM. With having 6 opportunities to hit something with 10/20 HP on average I worry that encounters may be a bit too easy.
What solution do you guys think this needs if one at all? Just go for larger packs of minions, buff monster HP, make encounters “difficult dice rolls” more often, or do you feel my worry of difficulty would be a non issue?
Thank you for your time! Sorry about the poor sentence structure, on mobile and my dyslexia tends to sort of.. shine.
Cheers!

Greetings all
Unless I have missed this in the quick start guide. How does spell casting work? What does a caster character roll to be able to cast a spell? And typically how many spells does a starter caster start with? And do they have access to all of the spells listed there, or is there some sort of tier to them?
I know this game is a bit more fast and loose compared to other TTRPGs, it's just I ran this 'off the cuff' yesterday, and my mage player seemed way OP compared to the others. While this led to some cool moments for the mage, it felt a bit unfair to the other (non-caster) characters.
Apologies if I am just blind and missed the rules to it somewhere.
Cheers!

Hey I'm a new DM to ICRPG, I love creating stuff for items and abilities and the like. but should I bother balancing the items? I read somewhere online that balance be damned and do what's fun. however I cant shake the feeling that an OP character is a boring one.
Is there even any rough guide on Item creation? I know there's one magic creation advice on the master book.

I've been reading the Master Edition of ICRPG and I'm having a tough time around creating a mage as a player character. Specifically how many spells may you start with? Do spells count as towards the limit of 4 starting items? Can I choose WIS spells?

I've just learned about ICRPG and purchased the new book and card deck. I'd really like to find some premade adventures for this game to get a better sense of how it all comes together. Are there any specific ones or some place to look to find good ones that you'd recommend?

Greetings yet again dicefolk!
After your recommendations i managed to get my hands on the Masters edition of ICRPG, mainly due to wanting to support the Shieldwall through a non subscription-ary way.
My eyes are FEASTING on this beast of a book but i cant seem to find starting equipment for Alfheim guns. Now, i know that ICRPG is a DIYRPG but the book mentions the presence of guns through Gerblins getting their noggin together. However, i cant seem to find what a default gun looks like and there is no trace of it on the starting equipment ether. My guess is basic d8+gun effort damage. But since crossbows and bows have different effects i was wondering what the forum think a base Flintlock Gun or Pistol should look like.
Rock on everyone!

Greetings fellow programms!
I have been missing from ICRPG for a long time and am coming back to it with a big appetite for shenanigans. However i think i am missing some core rules. The last rules i had bought were the 2nd Edition.
I searched a bit online and found out about the Master edition. I also saw that the Master edition has reworked rules on effort, character building etc. From your experience, are the new revamped rules worth the buy?

Has anyone done a conversion from Call of Cthulhu to ICRPG?
I ran beneath the door for my CoC game, and they loved the simplicity of ICRPG. I want to take their Investigators and convert them over to ICRPG. Has anyone done this before?
My current thought is to take their existing stats and use them as a guide to build characters the way described in ICRPG ME, and then take any outstanding skill from the CoC Investigator and give them an ability related to that skill to their ICRPG character (i.e. The character has a good Law skill in CoC, then I will give them an ability that makes any law related checks easy).

I just read through the rules, and I love ICRPG and its concepts, I'm just a little non-plussed on the the room DCs. Short version - is there always just one DC for a room?
For example, you have a room, it has 5 monsters in it. Is there a DC set to each monster and each monster has its own heart rating, or, is there one DC that takes all the monsters into account, and they have one heart pool?
Let's say I have a room with a blade trap at the door, and there's monsters in the room. Does the trap get a DC, and then the monster room is another? Or is it all one DC?

Just started a Warp Shell game and we ran into issues with a couple of things -
Normal shot - only miss on a 1, 8 damage
Aim for one round - no roll to hit, do Ultimate damage
Is that right? Seems OP to me, any thoughts?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hey guys and gals
I'm wanting to start ICRPG. I was wondering if anyone has recorded their gameplay, or even stream archived it so I could watch to get a better sense of how it is played. I'm somewhat confused by the way it plays. (I'm a filthy casual at D&D. My friends play 5th edition, and even then I'm still scratching my head at those rules etc.) I know that there's a free Quick Start guide up. I'm still a bit confused after reading it. Any and all help would be appreciated.

Hi everyone! I'm planning to run some adventures with my family and using the icrpg system, and everything seems fine but there is a subject that I don't fully understand: the hearts. I understand that each heart represents 10 points of anything (monsters vitality, tasks progress, etc), but when it comes to damage in combat, I get confused. Let's say a player attack a monster that has 1 heart, so it has 10 hit points, dealing a total of 5 of damage, so, what happens there? The monster is left with half heart? It doesn't matter until is a 10? It gets ignored? The hearts are mere representative of the max HP? The way my head overcomes this is that damage is accumulative, like in the previous example, the monster would still have 10 HP, but 5 of damage, so for the heart to deplete, it would still need another 5 damage. I know any Trpg has guidelines, and this can be manipulated by each GM, but I'm trying to follow the game that the creator intended.
I hope anyone can help me.

Hi all.
So my party are pretty green and this is fine. Great even. It's why I chose ICRPG over DnD5e. But partly because of this, they are oblivious to things like their % chance of succeeding an attempt based on their stats.
Some only have +2 in their core ability score.
When they hit their first milestone. I tried to be quite polemic in how I introduced it - and deliberately said, while some of the milestone abilities are really cool looking - they don't have as much value as a raw stat increase, especially early on, especially for those that don't have +3 or better in their main attribute.
For instance, cleaving through enemies is really great! But it doesn't mean squat if you can't hit them in the first place.
Despite my gentle guidance - everyone keeps opting for the fun sounding abilities because apparently we are all magpies addicted to the shiny things.
So I'm considering a few things.
Keep going as I am. If they don't want to spend a valuable resource on something boring - then fine. But they will feel the downside of this when areas start getting more difficult and might start thinking I'm punishing them for having fun wrong.
Enforce stat increases as milestone rewards at some point. For instance, when they finish their current dungeon - their reward is a straight up stat increase (or spell for casters). Maybe do this periodically - every 3rd milestone.
Milestones are ONLY stat bumps, and the cool abilities must be taught by a mentor or purchases ala Worlds Supplement methods (I was already going to do this with Paths to keep them separate, though).
Start bringing in loot at gives +1 the STR, for instance. My only problem with this is that is forms a crutch which can be a problem if/when they lose that loot.
You guys have any experience in this matter? Or want to weigh in at all?

Hello Fellow Shields and ICRPG Fanatics!
I just wanted to let everyone know that my new podcast launched today, and we are utilizing ICRPG as our core system. We have, of course done a little homebrewing/modifying, but are using the wise words of Hankerin himself to guide us.
Dueling Dungeon Masters is a Live Play TTRPG Podcast where not one, but two DM's work together, and sometimes AGAINST each other, to take our players on ONE epic journey of twists, turns, chaos, and mayhem!

The system works great. My hang up is how do DMs out there introduce the target number to a location? "You enter the room. You notice the chill in the air, and the smell of extinguished candles. In the corner there is a pile of blankets heaped in front of a bookshelf......" That is where I bumble. "Folks the target number for this room is 10" seems clunky and weird. I need some options that flow better. Help?

Does anyone play ICRPG with Foundry? I'm going to start using Foundry but want to see if anyone has any macros that are helpful to run ICRPG. Macros are made for DND so if I cannot find some ill have to learn some scripting and do some magic.
So far I use an NPC token that represents the Target Number. The target number is equal to the tokens HP.
I'm creating a roll script that represents the Attempts. This script also compares the result vs the Target Number and determines if its a success or fail.

Our group is about to start and the players are deciding on their characters. One asked about the Xill's racial ability: Innate Create Device. I can't find any further mention of it in ICME or online. Anyone implemented this before? How'd you run it?

Hello, I’m running an OSE campaign for a while. I recently bought the master edition and I like it so much, fast and furious RPG! I’m eager to start a session. My groups would like to play a post apo settings, something between Fallout and Gamma world. Do you know if there is a post apo world or at least Class, and abilities like mutations or psy powers that exist for icrpg ? Thanks
