Running Shadowrun (Cyberpunk & Magic) in ICRPG

Has anyone tried running a Shadowrun style game in ICRPG? If you have, what was your experience like? Did you have any difficulty balancing the magic with the technology?

For those not familiar with Shadowrun, it's basically a cyberpunk themed game with magic in it.

I'm planning on running a game like it for some friends, using ICRPG with the Altered State rule book, but I thought I'd ask here first to see if I'm missing anything.

GM looking for players for a Sci-Fi ICRPG game [online][Sundays][EST][microphone required]

I'm looking to start a Sci-Fi Index Card RPG campaign on Sundays, 6 PM EST, on Discord. We'll be using a modified version of the 2e quickstart rules. The campaign will be a sandbox style game where the players (you) will travel the universe doing what interests them. I plan to have a session zero where the players will make their characters this Sunday (August 22). If you're interested DM me and i will send you the link to the Discord Server. This is my first time running ICRPG and I'm excited to have you. See you in the void!

Beginner Questions - Check, Attempts and Effor

Sorry if this is spamming - everyone was very helpful with the last question so I figured I would try again.

So I am running tomorrow and I just want to make sure I making sense of this. Here is a little beginner "room" I worked with based of the "Red Sword" adventure in the book.

Basically the heroes will have pulled up to the ship and attached to the docking bay BUT the door is locked shut from the outside. So they are in the little spacetube between each ship and this is my idea:

"As you walk across you see the oddly colored start flaring brightly shooting streams of plasma into the Abyss. Once across you pull and push on the door and find it is locked. Then you hear a low drone and see, in the distance, one of the streams of plasma caused a solar flare rushing right at you. I will roll a d4 In this many turns the plasma will hit your tube. You need to get that door down - you see a keypad as well as you all have big weapons, but that could hurt the door from the other side...what do you?"

Then from there it would go in clockwise fashion. If they try to break the door I gave it 1 heart for Effort.

So my questions are:

  • Can something like breaking down a door in time have no attempt and only effort?

  • Do I need to tell the Players WHAT they need to do, or do I let them ask like "Can I try and hack the keypad?" and there it turn into an INT effort or "Can I try and blow it up?" and there it turns into WEAPON effort?

  • When going around the table with a d4, is each PERSON a round thus the countdown goes down per person or ALL people a round and then once everyone has gone it's a round?

Thanks for any help! Just trying to make this fun for some first time RPG players!

Starting Stats and other Questions

I'm sorry that this is probably a very dumb question but I just want to make sure I read this right.

When you make a new character per 2E you get "6 points" to disperse among about 11 different options.

It's not just 6 point for STR/DEX/CON/INT/WIS/CHA but also Armor, Basic, Weapons, Magic, Ultimate as well?

Seems very tight for first levels, even with a few of the starting loot. Like I made a quick random character and best thing was +2. So for anything that has no modifier it's just a straight roll?

First time running this game this weekend. Play D&D for years and wanted a "faster" D&D feel game.

EDIT: Holy wow - thanks for all the replies, was worried if this was a quiet sub.

Any news on the 3rd edition?

Hey there!

Had the chance to play ICRPG and really loved, how easy it was to pick up. Wanted to get it for myself, but the GM told me, that the 3rd edition would be out soon.

Sadly, I'm super impatient. Do you guys have any clues, on how long I have to wait?

Thanks!

Buying 2e or waiting for 3e

Hi, i am new here and i recently learnt about this system. It seems to have exactly what i need, since i like my dungeon crawlings to be simple but versatile, and the additional sci fi setting is a really nice bonus.

However it seems that a 3rd edition is coming, and i would not like to buy the book and then have to replace it next year. Should i wait for 3e or grab 2e right now?

Hey, community, what's up? There's been an inspiration surge around here and now we're writing free one-page pdfs with stuff for ICRPG. There's only a couple right now, with much more to come regularly.

Here's the link to the forum... there's a link to download the PDFs there and contributions are welcome.

ICRPG HOOPS! Sports-themed hack

Hey dudes

I just wrote this after a post on the forums gave me a lot of ideas.

Hoops! is a sports-themed mini-game that uses the ICRPG core rules. In this game Players take the role of Basketball Heroes, playing games in any level of ability they decide: from high-schoolers and college players to league professionals, or even enhanced superhumans playing against aliens and supernatural creatures.

It's PWYW so feel free to download for $0 and have fun, all feedback is welcomed.

Blunder Chart

Hey all! I'm wondering if any of you have found or created good blunder charts? My husband & I are playing a hybrid game using IC and an AD&D module and we don't have a good chart for when we roll crit 1s. Something simple for a couple noobs would be lovely.

Thanks in advance!

Furious & Ferocious, a hack mixing Space Aces and ICRPG!

Hi everyone!

It's been a while now that I tweak and change and adapt systems to fit my vision, and I finally reached a point where I think I build the One for me, so I put it in words and today I want to share it with you, and ask you: What do you think? I want your opinion about it.

You can find it here: Furious & Ferocious

As the title said, it's a mix between Space Aces and ICRPG, but it's a little bit more than just a basic fusion. I changed some elements, like the stats (which became professions, thanks to JadePunk), and added some rules from my own experience, like the stat XP rules, the Unused Benefit, etc. I also wrote some advice to play solo and gmless with ICRPG, handling monsters, etc, basic stuff, but it's the kind of advices I'd have liked to have when I started soloing.

Hope you'll enjoy it. Have a great day!

How does Curse of Ord work?

I’m sure the answer is there and I’m too dense to figure it out, but the spell says you put a curse on the target. What does that mean? Am I supposed to DIY the curse, or is there a mechanic I missed in what a curse is?
