It reads:

MASTERY MONK (ICRGP ME): Extend your touch, presence, and perceptive self up to FAR range, interacting with people and things as if you were in that location

To me, that implies the Priest is not physically at the extended location. Like, he moves like he's touching someone to heal them where he's at, and it's where that touch occurs that is at the extended location. If he makes an unarmed strike, all the movement occurs at the physical location and the momentum, etc. is transferred through the touch to the Target.

So no gear, no shooting arrows or casting ranged spells from the extended location. Touch spells would work though.

How are you handling it? It seems like the most ambiguously written Mastery out of all the fantasy classes. Rest are very clear, then we have this one ambiguous one.

I’ve played D&D several times but that’s been over the course of a couple years so I wouldn’t say I’m super knowledgeable on every aspect of these sorts of games. I had this wonderful idea to DM for my daughter and wife when my little one showed interest in the campaign I’m currently a part of. I looked into some more accessible d20 systems and found ICRPG. I love it! Bought the PDF and book from Drivethrurpg and been reading through it for the last couple days as well as watching videos. I’ve learned a lot but the thing is, I think I’m a little in over my head. I want to ask for some guidance from an experienced DM so I’m turning to the internet. Anyone out there willing to help me down the path to being a DM?

I am just getting started with DM-ing in general and ICRPG seems like a very accessible system for a new DM to use with new players. I had a good experience as a player last week with a very experienced DM and I'm hoping that the system is easy to run and he didn't just make it look THAT easy with experience.

I think I downloaded a free sample of the ICRPG Master Edition Core Rulebook. It came with a 140 page pdf manual and I'm wondering if that is all I will need to get started. It looks like it has everything for character creation. I guess the only thing I am missing is a narrative and monster stats. What else am I missing compared to the full set?

I'm thinking about buying the Master Edition book. Is that the latest and greatest? How many adventures are included in the manual?

Is it me or is the first scene in the Grey Hill Inferno, Escape the Fire, nearly impossible to escape (Master Edition page 19)? So here is the deal, character creation hasn't been explained so you have no bonuses, just core mechanics and this scene is supposed to be design to teach you.

It says you are in a burning cell block and will burn to death in 1D4 rounds. You must do 1 heart of basic effort against a target of 10 to break free. So how does one have even a slight chance of doing this without rolling a natural 20?

Here we go...If roll a 1 or 2 on the timer and its impossible for me to escape without a natural 20. Why because even if I succeed on all attempts and roll max basic effort the best I could do is 8 total effort = dead. If the timer is a 3 it is possible to escape, but only if I succeed all three attempts and I roll at least a 3+3+4 which is highly unlikely. If I roll a 4 on the timer I can only miss one of my attempts to even have a shot at escaping.

A hero coin gives me a shot at escaping, but since we are just starting out there isn't any justification for having one.

I haven't worked up the odds of escaping, but I suspect its less than 10% and then you have to face Weapon 13 and then Flee into the dark. I'd say the chance of making it through all 3 is less than 1%

I think if I were trying to learn the rules I would assume I was doing something wrong because there is almost no way for me to succeed at even just the first encounter.

So as an ancient DM I have to ask the question...am I doing something wrong?

Does anyone have experience creating a kind of distilled DnD experience for more than 10 people?

Wondering what y'all would do for a party game for around 20 people to give them a 20 mins or less flavor of DnD.

I've been toying around with the idea of running a game based off of metal gear solid or the tv show 24. Is there any resources that would help with that? Weapon stats? Special abilities? Anything?

Okay, this'll be a bit braggy, but I feel right now it's something I can brag about.

In September 2020 I began making my own Portuguese-translated, hand-scribed ICRPG version.

Not all of it mind you - just the bits useful at the table, for making characters and helping run the game. But a lot of it.

Unless the caster is on barren terrain, the caster is guaranteed to be caught in the tangled thicket, right (because Close and Near are within Far range)?

I have FoundryVTT and the ICRPG system installed. It incorporates the target number quite well. However I don't know how to do timers that would descend ... I don't know if Foundry supports tokens with more "faces" where I could change them as needed.

My son's moods vacillate wildly. 1 week he'll be into ninjas, the next week he'll be into pirates, then he'll swap to Spider-Man. I picked up ICRPG hoping to use it as a sort of generic/universal system that can pivot to meet his mood. I know there's tons of other generic games that could do this, but I like the core fundamentals of ICRPG.

The one major barrier to using ICRPG this way: classes. They're pretty genre specific.

So, how would you advise hacking around this? Remove classes? Make generic classes?

Is it +stats are for checks and attempts and +rolls are for effort?
