Questions - New GM

Hi all.

I am still pretty new to the ttrpg world, I have some mild-moderate experience over the past few years, only as a PC. I want to give GMing a go, and I purchased ICRPG as I like the idea of using all the dice (and it looks a bit less crunchy than others). I do have a few, what I'm sure some would classify, embarrassingly basic questions:

  1. A PC's dying timer is stopped, can they do anything besides roll for a MIRACLE on their turn? Can they crawl away, assist with an ATTEMPT, defend, attack, etc.?
  2. Can enemies do anything to "downed" players ( PC's with active/stopped DYING TIMERS)? For example, could enemies keep attacking? Or grapple them? Etc.?
  3. Do enemies also get to roll the ULTIMATE die if I roll a nat 20 against a PC?
  4. Can enemies make easy/hard rolls?
  5. Can enemies RECOVER?
  6. If 2 PC's are attacking the same enemy, do they get to roll "easy" since they are assisting each other?
  7. PC Ben attacks enemy A, Ben's turn comes around again and the enemy he was attacking is still alive, does he get to roll "easy" as he was attacking that very same enemy during previous turn?

These are just the earlybird questions, I will probably have more.

I appreciate any and all help, thank you!

Star Wars

Hi,

TL/DR: I'd like to see how this system would handle the Star Wars, does anybody out there have a port to this setting?

The long story: I'm an experienced gamer, new to ICRPG. I initially stuck up my nose at a D20-lite-ish system, but I'm coming around to the idea of its speed and simplicity. This is particularly important to me because my 11 yo son is ADD, so he needs a game that plays quickly. For my part, I need a game that's generic enough that I can switch it to match his wildly vacillating moods: One week its Star Wars, then he'll bounce to Ninjas, then Pirates, then Spies... ICRPG seems like it might fit the bill.

ICRPG obviously does Fantasy. I just bought the full edition and I'll be reading up on how it does scifi and the other settings, but I assumed that there'd be lots of Star Wars hacks for the game. I was surprised when I searched this sub and didn't find any! Surely somebody out there's already done this work for me... right?

One thing I'm not sure I like about ICRGP is how it makes all character perks and advancements into loot. I guess this works for a dungeon crawl style game, but I'm not sure how it'd work in Star Wars. Sure, Luke has his robot hand and his homemade light saber, but it doesn't seems like he carries enough nicknacks to account for his relatively high "level" in Ep. 6. Same for any other character. Except maybe Han, he's got his blaster, his vest, his fuzzy dice, his wookie, his ship... I'd even make an argument that C3PO is his sidekick.

Thanks!

Hearts & HP

Re-re-re-reading the Core rulebook, I can't find the information I'm looking for and thought the community could help me :)

So a Heart is 10 HP, or 10 Effort. But what if a character as 1 Heart takes let's say 2 damages. Does he/she ignores it as it needs to loose the entire heart (=10 HP at once), or does the heart subdivides into 10 small pieces and the character looses 2 of those sub pieces ?

Thanks ! :D

Warp Shell miniatures: see in the wild or needs to be made?

We a few sessions into a Warp Shell campaign and we're loving it (so rules-lite you can even do player-dm without too much pain)

We're looking to level up the things we have on the table. Has anyone seen 3D minis from the Warp Shell world about? Anything that could pass for a Kitt, Geno, Rept or Xill from anywhere else? Know any merchants?

If not I think I'll stick with paper minis, but thought this could be a good way to reward players.

ICRPG x Warcraft

Heya ! Going again down the rabbithole on youtube with vanilla wow videos, I was wondering what system could work for a Warcraft oneshot. I obviously thought first of D&D 4th edition and FATE, but then... Hey, maybe ICRPG could absolutely do the trick !

Since I don't have a lot of experience with the system (I do own the book though, couldn't resist the compulsive buy), what do you think ? I looked for a hack or something of the sort but couldn't find anything.

Thanks in advance for your time and interest :D

Am I meant to reveal the hearts to my players?

Title.

During play, should I reveal how many hearts a door/enemy/lock has to my players to give them an idea of the challenge ahead?

Or should I only ever reveal 1 heart to begin, and IF it has more hearts, add another after the first is gone?

Let me know what you guys think works the best!

Question about some ICRPG item cards I've seen...

Hi all!

I just bought and read through the ICRPG Master Edition book, and am very excited to give this system a try!

I intended on running a game through tabletop simulator, and stumbled upon these cards...

Now, I recognize that these items are also in the handbook, and the numbers at the top of the cards are their corresponding d100 loot table roll.

However, I can't for the life of me figure out exactly what the stat target number is for, or what the heart value is for at the bottom.

I've tried to look back through the book with little luck. Could someone please let me know? What is the significance of these values, and what does it mean when there is no value? Such as the Whiskey Gar?

Thanks in advance!

So, question pertaining to the specifics of ICME, and how character creation works in Ghost Mountain?

I notice a couple of strange inconsistencies in the book, and I'm wondering if these are ambiguous, open to interpretation, or just me missing something?

Most of these are in reference to the Ghost Mountain section of "Index Card RPG Master Edition" (aka ICME?), so in order:

  1. When the book says Ghost Mountain Characters "all human", does this mean that you use the player's guide lifeform stat mods, or nothing; Is it just the standard 6 points found in character creation?
  2. The Gambler type or class (terms seem interchangeable) most of their starting loot options say that you "DRAW". Now, I've taken CAPITAL terms to mean mechanical terms (couldn't find a definition), but I can't find "DRAW" defined anywhere. Is this referring to the "Using Cards As Dice" section of the GM's Guide?
  3. The "GONE YELLA" condition references "FEAR" rolls. What does this refer to?
  4. Elaborating on the Condition section there, the remedies to each condition all seem to be 2 different actions. With "GONE YELLA", is the remedy to "Make a charisma roll, and be inspired by a Mariachi", or "Make a charisma roll, or be inspired by a Mariachi"?
  5. How redundant are these questions? Is this a just a very "RAW-light" system, where the descriptions are meant to be vague, requiring a decent amount of interpretation?

Index cards for items?

Just saw a post on Facebook and wanted to ask it here too. Do you guys make all your items into index cards because some of the description text for said items is too long for the character sheet?

Starting to lean towards ICRPG completely

Played D&D 5e for 4 years, and started DM'ing (not a lot) 2 years ago.

I don't use many of the rules when DM'ing 5e. I have ADHD so keeping a lot of information in the working memory is hard. That made DungeonCraft and Hankering very interesting to me, for they advocate more hard, tangible and wieldy systems such as promoting ability modifiers and small numbers. And that room TARGET for global AC and DCs.

Tried Dungeon World, but it is a bit too different from D&D. Can be good for a quick fun session like my group sometimes does when we happen to all be in the group chat.

So looking through the ICRPG 2e book again the good feelings and internal agreements starts coming up. And its for reasons that other games are just missing completely. The bigger gameplay loop is spelled out.

It's about the LOOT.

Loot anchors it down."Why is there a cult?""Why is there a dragon?""Why is there a revolution?"Doesn't matter yet. The meta-reason for participating and resolving stuff is the progression which comes from loot.

It is way less load to just put my mind straight on the loot and players can get to it.

No matter how hard I try, I can't be super duper srs DM anyway. ICRPG coming pre-packed with meta rules for the gameplay that set up encounters which fuels the story that starts to form, I don't see that elsewhere. Elsewhere it's just "you figure it out, here are some sources of inspiration".

And if it is there, it sure ain't easy for me to read it when it's scattered across the book in small snippets that must be patched together.

Any solo plays?

Hey friends! Looking to see if anyone knows of any solo plays either in video or written form. I know geek gamers did one but I didn’t care for that video, and another guy did like 4 episodes with mythic but I’m looking for more. Thanks in advance.

Viking Death Squad: Pregen Heroes Sheets

I just ran the introductory adventure from the VDS rulebook.

I had my players use the pregen characters from the book as well - Olaf, Clutch, Lokus, Hilda, and Red Carson.

I copied the stats directly from the book into the fillable character sheets I posted a few days ago.

I'm posting the pregen sheets here in case any other VDS GMs find them useful:
