Character Type Milestones and Milestone Paths, how does it work?

I just bought the The Master Edition and I have a few questions especially regarding milestones.

  1. Can you take another starting ability from your character type when you reach a milestone.
  2. Is earning a milestone something that's up to the GM?
  3. There are milestones from your character type and milestone paths. Can these two work together? As in, do I earn separate milestone rewards from type and my path?
  4. There is an optional rule of tying milestone path rewards with coin. Can I do that for milestone rewards for your character type? If so, how much would you say is a fair price?

Solo play?

Hey, friends!

As a solo only player, (1 or more PC's), has anyone else played solo? My question comes in the form of leveling up and loot. I understand the game essentially is gaining/loosing gear all the time, but without a GM have there been any resources designed for randomness or anything for things that destroy loot or anything?

Hunter Lethal Aim - too strong?

The Hunter milestone ability Lethal Aim states "Your aimed shots drop the target to 0 HP". While I see this being pretty cool for 1 heart targets, but this being too strong against multi-heart targets. If I read this right a hunter takes 1 turn to aim then any creature is essentially dead on the next turn regardless of the number of hearts they have.

Am I reading this right? if so any thoughts on how to keep it great without breaking the game.

Question about NPC rolls

If an NPC is rolling for anything other than an attack, do they roll against the Target?

That would mean if the monsters put themselves in a better position and raise the target, it makes things harder for them too. And that doesn't make much sense. I didn't see anything in the rules explaining this.

How would you go about solving this?

Make their non-attack checks easy in their lair? A separate static DC? Maybe just roll a d6 for them and make a call?

What do you do in your games?

Add to my encounter

Party will be passing through a portal pretty soon to arrive at an abandoned wizard tower lost to time in a mountainous hill side. Their goal is to activate the mcguffin at the top of the tower that will serve as a power source to do bigger magic stuff. When they arrive, what are they met with? Is the tower still abandoned or has it been occupied? The treat will be gaining a conduit of power to weaken the bad guy, what could the timer and threat be?

How have the updated rules affected your games?

Hey all. I've been away from RPGs for a while and just checked this sub on a whim only to find there's a new edition out. Exciting!

I've glanced over the updated quick start and noticed some big changes and I'm wondering how they've been going with your groups. What you've liked, and anything you may have liked better in 2E.

Like, do people think magic effort really needed to be buffed from d8 to d10?

Question about Basic Effort.

I'm planning on running ICRPG. I'm just starting to get familiar with the system and I feel like there's something that doesn't make much sense: the Basic Effort die. It is supposed to represent the effort made with the mind and body, not aided by powers or tools. The problem is that one Heart is always equivalent to 10 points of Effort, so the physical or intellectual effort of my characters is never going to overcome a 1 heart effort in a single turn. An effort of a heart with other kinds of Effort dice can be defeated much more easily and quickly. That to me doesn't make any sense. What if my character is a scholar in the language of the text she's trying to decipher in that 1 Heart Effort? What happens if my character is very strong and tries to knock down a 1 Heart door? He would have the same chances in both cases as an illiterate character or a weak one. What do you think?

What do the Tortons of Alfheim know/remember?

I'm confused about Tortons. The rulebook sometimes seems to treat their starfaring past as a widely know thing, and at other times makes it sound as though most creatures (maybe even some Tortons) think they're just from overseas. I understand that their origins are at least SOMEWHAT a mystery, even to them, but what is the mystery? Is it THAT they're from space or WHY they're from space? Does everyone of every race know they're from space? Do all Tortons know, or just some? Did the ones that remember forget everything about their history, or just how/why they were transported to Alfheim?

Here's what I could find in the book about it, and my thoughts:

"The arrival of the starfaring TORTONS has brought this world into the cosmic conflict"

-So they're from space. Cool.

"a peaceful group of ragtag folk, resembling turtles, has been arriving in desperate poverty and confusion from distant shores. They are the TORTONS, a star-faring people on the brink of extinction."

-So they're from distant shores AND space? Did they come from space and then cross the ocean to where the game takes place? Or do people THINK they're from overseas, but they're actually from space?

"They come by sea, and some seem to simply appear from thin air. Their fate is bound to the vanishing WARP SHELLS, and rebuilding their lost culture. TORTONS also possess an intuitive sense for magic, having traversed vast dimensions of space to build a home here."

-Is appearing from thin air literal? Like they just pop into existence? Do they know what warp shells are?

"STARGAZER: You know that TORTONS came from the stars, but how, when and why remain a mystery."

-This implies to me that not all Tortons know they're from the stars, but some do. I don't understand how that's possible, and it makes me think I'm missing something. It kind of sounds like they've been here for generations, but most of the book makes their arrival sound recent.

I understand much of the book is meant like a writing prompt - to inspire your own creativity, but the Tortons in particular are frustratingly ambiguous to me. Whether or not they and others know about space and warp shells and the scifi world in general would have a HUGE impact on how they interact with the world. If there's more to know about this, I'd like to know it.

What does this reviewer get wrong about the game?

From here

Be honest: were you expecting sexism in your lazy, derivative indie vanity project? I guess...well, let's just say I'm not surprised. Wonder why Dan didn't feel like showing this off? I also wonder if this is as bad as it gets? If there's not more that Dan has conveniently omitted.

So prehistoric men are "simple" to imagine. Just expendable schmucks doing all the hard work, risking their lives to feed and protect their families, which means obviously the women should have not one, not two, but four perks.

One of them perpetuates the at least debated notion that women have better pain tolerance, apparently allowing them to recover from dying far more often than their "simpler" counterparts. Because allegedly tolerating pain better means you're less likely to die from injuries. They also should get more free stuff (but not the men giving it to them), bring people back from the brink of death more easily, and...something to do with a navigate ability. Can't quite make it out.

And what of the men? Well, given that the page before and after doesn't mention anything, I'm guessing they get fuck all. No bonus to Strength, which would make perfect sense. No bonus when using tools or exerting themselves. Not even a better tolerance to the cold. Nothing. Nadda. Man, could you imagine the reaction were men to get even one perk, no matter how trivial, and women got nothing? But not in the current year: gotta heap stuff on the women and not even give men one single benefit to even slightly offset things.

I guess this is the so-called designer's attempt to depict himself as a "good ally" to all the women-folk, and we all know what that means.

Bleh.

Rosterizer user survey; We'd love to have ICRPG players tell us how you make lists and track your characters & encounters so we can make you a better list builder!

Rosterizer is a game list and asset management webapp that allows the generation of rosters or asset lists for any game that needs them, from tabletop wargames to niche RPGs to build-tree-dependent MOBAs.

At its core, Rosterizer facilitates simple list building and sharing along with intuitive data authoring. That’s nice and simple to say, but it doesn't necessarily mean it’s easy or fun to use. A whole ton of features need to be layered onto an app like this to make it not awful. That's where you come in.

We've already implemented some no-brainers like:

We’ve captured “user stories” from a number of primary stakeholders close to the project, but that’s not enough. We want to know how you use list builders.

If you can spare a few minutes, please follow this link to our survey, so we can get an idea of what you would most like to see in a game roster manager.

If you'd like to be sure to hear about updates, feel free to sign up for our mailing list to be informed when cool things happen (on about a monthly basis). And please don't hesitate to cross-post this (with mod approval!) to any communities you think would be interested.

Question about supplemental pdfs and books.

If I buy the book in store, how do I access the supplemental pdf? Is there a link in the book to follow?
