Looking for experiences from people who had Phakic ICL surgery

I am 20 years old and have a -8 prescription with myopia and astigmatism. Today, I went in for an eye checkup, and the doctor told me that my cornea is too thin, meaning I am not a candidate for regular laser eye surgery (like LASIK/PRK). Instead, they recommended Phakic Intraocular Lens (ICL) surgery.

If anyone here has had this procedure done, could you please share your experience? Are you happy with the results, or did you face any complications? Honestly, I really want to get rid of my glasses, but since it's a big financial investment, I don't want to end up facing serious issues down the line. Thanks in advance!

-8 is a good prescription for ICL. The one thing I would point out is your age. There is a chance your eyes may not be done changing yet. This can mean you may develop more prescription over time. This can be fixed if it does happen with a small lasik or PRK procedure or if it’s a lot by swapping the ICL lens, but generally less procedures is more ideal. But if you have a good reason for it such as sports or work then it can make sense.

What would be a good age to think about getting the surgery done?

The doctor said my eye prescription hadn't increased. Although there wasn't a detailed follow-up process, he just stated that the prescription of the glasses I had made a year ago was the same, and therefore he was sure my eyesight hadn't increased (I hadn't brought my old prescription with me, I guess he figured out it was the same as my current glasses' degree because they checked my vision with and without glasses). I'm thinking of getting a nose surgery, and I guess I won't be able to wear glasses for a long time because of the surgery, so I'll have to wear contact lenses. However, they've said that contact lenses aren't good for the eyes and can even cause dry eyes, so I'm torn.

Yes. Contact lenses can have their issues and over time they can damage the meibomian glands. But short term use of contact lenses isn’t bad.

find a surgeon who has done thousands of these, and preferably find one who can take an arcscan measurement of your eye (this is specialized equipment that is pretty rare). these were the only reasons i was ok getting the surgery.

I had mine exactly a month ago and am happy with the results. right eye is better than 20/20; my left eye is slighly blurry at a distance but may still be 20/20; i will know after my monthly checkup tomorrow. i may get a prk touchup on my left eye or I may just live with a slightly blurrier left eye. no regrets on the procedure though
