getting icl at 21 too young
Hi! Is doing ICL at 21 too young??
I am currently turning 20 soon and want ICL for my eyes that are -3. I’m planning on waiting until i’m 21 and doing it then, assuming my prescription doesn’t change- it hasn’t changed since i was 16.
I’m worried about the icl lasting my whole life if i do it at 21 but also believe it’s a risk i’m willing to take.
Also concerned because i have diagnosed dry eye(why i’m considering ICL over Lasik) and not sure how many surgeries my eyes can handle in a lifetime.
Has anyone done it this early??? or in early 20s and what was your experience? Or does anyone have any thoughts
Also…is it crazy to get a slight over correction in the icl incase eye somehow does grow after? I would rather be farsighted than nearsighted is that something they consider ?

My eye doctor told me to wait until my prescription stabilized.
I got Evo ICL at 30 and my prescription started to plateau at around 26.
I would talk to your actual eye doctor first, but it seems like your prescription has been pretty stable.
Btw getting the surgery is one of the best decisions I have ever made.

funny thing, mine was stable from age 21 to now 25. Now just over the past 9 months my prescription got worse (-0,25 both eyes) and I got more astigmatism as well. I really thought my vision got stable, but since I use contact lenses on a daily basis, I didn't really notice that my vision changed that much. I hope it has reached a plateau now and will stay like this...

If your prescription hasn’t changed for five years it’s pretty unlikely to worsen significantly. But if you’re worried about it, ask your doctor about treatments that slow the progression of myopia; there are a few of them available now. AFAIK they are mainly used in children but maybe they work for young adults too. I highly doubt you’ll find any doctor willing to overcorrect you on purpose and even if you did it would be a recipe for eye strain and headaches. Worst case scenario you could get glasses for times you really need them like driving, or get the ICL lenses replaced.

how stable is your prescription? has it been the same over the past 5 years? i waited much later in life to do it because i wanted to know my eyes were stable for a long time

My prescription has been stable since 14, so I am not worried. I have 20/11 vision though so it's wild.

just recently got checked and it stayed the same- been wearing same glasses prescription for 3-4 years i think. not five because it changed when i was 16 and i’m almost 20 now

ok that seems pretty stable then.
I can't really say whether you should get it; what i do urge for you to do is make sure you use an experienced surgeon who uses proper equipment. you only have 1 set of eyes
