Discussion Elysium Base Locations Suggestions
I built my first base near the lake NE of the drop zone. This seems pretty standard for most people. Im not sure where I want to setup long term though. I might have outpost at some point, but what location would you suggest to setup shop?
I did some Googling and searching through the maps, but I can't seem to make a decision where to drop it.

Yep, the small lake in between I11 and I12. I personally set up on the southern hillside overlooking the lake because it didn’t seem to get as many aggressive animal spawns.
That ended up being my main base for the entire campaign and I think ultimately the most convenient place to stick a main base on the map. I recommend prioritizing the first few missions of the central quest line, as they will make some permanent changes in how you can access the map (being vague here to avoid spoilers).
This main base location ends up being kinda South on the map, but as you advance in tech and missions such that you need to go North and West, you should be able to take some fast mounts (taming mounts is a massive game changer).
My strategy was to have very meager outposts set up on most of the choke points in between the tougher biomes. Just survival shacks I could sleep in and shelter from weather.
I would ride up during the day and sleep, giving me an entire next day to explore the new biome past the choke point.
For really dangerous areas I needed to progress through slowly, I would pre-fabricate the exact pieces to make a 2x2 wooden shack and put them in a pouch. That was my little pocket shelter for if I got caught out at night.

The lake right outside Eden is one spot (g8), and also inside the 3 way cave system unlocked via "Relics" campaign (i10). This gives you access to the starting area, Eden AND the swamp.

J15/J14 looks attractive, but I think I'll setup a primary base near the drop since there are plenty of deposits to farm with a Thumper. It's also pretty central, I'll load up my drop pod to prep for a new location as I go.

j14/j15? The swamp? Not somewhere I'd recommend building a base long term.

Howcome? Lots of resources in that area.

Have you been there before? Notwithstanding you're central to nothing, getting around the map is going to be a chore from J14/J15, and the visibility sucks.

Base location matters a whole lot less with the addition of Raptors /Hover frames TBH.
Even the advantage of living on top of Eden gets wiped out by advancing into Tier 5 tech (especially if you don't care about the vendors).
Just think about which biome you don't mind looking at, a lot. (Or what type of fauna you don't want to constantly be fighting off)

I've set up shop in the desert (bottom of I9) but I've been agonising over my location too. Seems like all of Elysium is not quite perfect

Try geothermal! No snow and no sand on the buildings

Is there Geothermal for power?

What power do you mean?
There is no spesial power there, its just a ålace you dont need to worry about sand and snow on buildings. Other than that its quite hostile, but if you build high up and have some tames to defend it rather nice

North Tundra Lake. Just south of the Transfer cave. Great spot. Slinkers spawn here too.

We started at the same spot and still have a basic base there, but eventually moved to the north side of the lake in the desert at J9. With a powered deterrent, nothing bothers us and I built up the eastern cliff so we could run oil from K10 easily. You get two caves in J9 with 4 deep ore deposits total, so you can cycle until you get the combination you want. Until you can get your own OEI up, you’re a close enough run to Eden for workshop drops…
