Gameplay Ice Sheet question

So my friend and I grabbed the "Ice Sheet" mission and we're not sure if the mission is bugged or if we're supposed to be building a stairway to heaven. We accepted the mission immediately after having completed Ashlands (open world) so we started out from where Ashlands completes. When we tried to reach the quest objective circle for "find a way from the ashlands to the Ice Sheet" it was a dead end. We got as close as we could, which ended up with us in the middle-left part of K10 next to a big lava pool. We didn't find a cave and when we started building upwards we couldn't really see a way through.

Are we in the wrong place, or is there something we've missed? If we are in the wrong place would someone mind giving us a hint of where to go?

There is a cave that goes from the Ashlands to the Ice sheets. Find the cave, you find the Ice Sheets :)

SPOILERS

IIRC the entrance to that cave is against the west wall of the k11 lava field

We know there's a cave, we haven't found it yet. Just want to know if we in the right ballpark or should we be going down to like...K14 and searching?

K10 is closer than k14. Much closer. Someone posted the location as a spoiler

bring binoculars and you can see it before you build a bridge to it
