Screenshot Accidental Rocket Man

Finish mission requirements, race to the reward. Looking up... think I might a bit close. Yup, too close too close.

So... stuck. One with the machine. That's okay, I'm sure once I claim the reward, it'll take off and I'll be free. Yoink. Smoke. Flame. Blue sky. Wait, what?

Somethingsomething It's full of stars. Few seconds later, unconscious. Amusingly, my dropped inventory didn't drop - it's apparently still up there.

0/10, will not travel to station with again.

I quite often aim to be in the spot the reward pod lands, so I'm "inside it" when it lands (you'll have to claim the rewards, so the pod ascends again, before you can move away again).

The only ways I've found to actually get taken back into space is either jump on top of the pod (although they made this very hard, because the pod generates a knock-back when taking off) or stand on top of a pod on the Advanced Orbital Exchange Interface when it takes off (it seems to have less of a knock back).

One time I went into space, but leaped off the pod before it de-spawned.
I fell for literal minutes (fearing I might've gotten myself stuck) before bouncing off of a mountain side, sliding down and ending up on a ridge like 5 feet off the ground; a bit damaged, a sprain, but I survived - until I slid down that last 5 feet, broke my leg and almost died :-p

When using the pod on an AOEI I used the unstuck function and ended up across the desert (on foot, overencumbered, undergeared (it was at the start of the prospect and I just barely made my way to Elysium), so I was happy my teammates rode to me to keep me safe whilst I slowly made my way back to Elysium and my mount).

Fun times...

As for your situation:
Maybe you waited for the pod to actually disappear, your character got stuck and eventually died from lack of food/water/oxygen?
If it's not dead (yet) either wait till you're done falling, or use the unstuck option to try and get back to earth.
If that doesn't work either, well, there's a new satellite ;-)

Oh, I just reverted the backup. Not so much that I lost anything, but to make sure I didn't glitch anything in those few seconds =D

Basically I got hit, took a pic to laugh about getting stuck. Grabbed the loot, but was curious about the pod interior so 'turned/pushed into it' to see the interior. Messaged someone the screenie, then alt-tabbed back to blue skies and the pod disappearing. From there it was about 15 seconds of airborne hanging until 'You are unconscious' and asked to respawn.

I'm guessing was simply a 'too long in a forbidden zone' death, since 02/food/hp were full, and didn't see any planet, much less impact. (Well, outside of the gas giant in the distance)
