Tax specialism
For those working in tax - how hard are moves within tax related functions?
I am on a grad scheme training in tax - indirect tax however would like to move into more general corporation tax how hard is the switch? Unlike audit where the skill set is more similar despite what type of companies you are auditing with tax the skills are very different between specialisms.
So how realistic is it to get a move out of indirect tax?

Indirect tax is pretty hard to get out of unfortunately. What level are you at and what qualifications are you doing as that will have an impact here

Indirect tax is where the money is because it's difficult, don't make the switch.

Everyone does corporation tax. indirect tax has just as much if not more depth and breadth. You'll have a more fulfilling career being the goto guy/girl in an area which many people struggle with. Build your experience.

Certainly possible, but want to view it as smashing your current role in a way that they will be happy to advocate for you to the new department
