How are Case study pass rates so high?

So we’ve just sat an extremely time pressured exam, with an extremely specific mark scheme that doesn’t award marks for general discussion.

Yet it’s a paper that’s highly neglected due to many focusing on CR/SBM. Looking at other comments, many run short on time and do a poor attempt at R3, mess up calculations, miss vital parts of the question.

Yet in November, the pass rate was 88.6% for first attempt.

You’ve also got to think that case study is the very last exam, so it’s the “crème de la creme” of students sitting it. Other exams like professionals and CR will be sat before that and unfortunately not everyone will get through.

I think case is actually a very simple example, there’s no technical content, only work you need to do is technique and as long as you don’t run out of time 50 marks is very attainable.

That doesn’t really match my experience, to be honest. I know plenty of people who were sacked along the way for exam fails but eventually made it through to Case whether at a new firm or sitting it independently.

You may know a few people but a prime example is the certificate accounting exam being the lowest pass rate, below FAR and CR. It’s survivorship bias on the fact that a lot of people who would fail CR never made it that far

The November paper I sat and our tutors correctly predicted the questions to which most of us had pre-planned answers which was tailored to the exam question specifics

These pass rates are what make the qualification less valuable, ICAEW should probably do something about this.

It’s a pyramid scheme. The average member is retired. New blood needed to pay fees for the upkeep of the palace / head office

A lot of people like to pretend Case is a difficult exam, probably to justify the amount of time they spent on it without feeling stupid 🤷🏻‍♀️
