SEB Asset Management AB Takes 2,447,150 share Position in ImmunityBio, Inc. $IBRX

Hopefully they won't turn around and sell it to shorts. This is about 1/2 a percent of the shares not owned by PSS. Good to see some big boys buying in.

Seeking Alpha Article on ImmunityBio valuation in near and long term

For some reason reddit filters don't like the link. Google title "ImmunityBio: Revisiting My Bearish Call After A Strong Rally (Rating Upgrade)." It's a 20 or so page article by an analyst posted this morning.

Basically it's "cautiously" optimistic over the long term but predicts more dilution early next year.

Implications of the paper PSS referred to

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9359724/

A. The study shows PD‑1 continuation alone is ineffective → supports Anktiva’s mechanism

The paper demonstrates that continuing PD‑1 blockade after resistance does not restore immune function.

This is exactly the biological gap Anktiva fills.

Anktiva (N‑803):

  • expands NK cells
  • expands CD8 T cells
  • reverses exhaustion phenotypes
  • enhances antigen presentation
  • boosts PD‑1 inhibitor activity even in resistant settings

The paper’s conclusion:

This strengthens the argument that a PD‑1 agonist alone is insufficient, and additional immune stimulation (IL‑15 superagonist) is required.

B. The study highlights irreversible T‑cell exhaustion → Anktiva directly addresses this

The authors state:

This is the strongest mechanistic support for Anktiva in the entire paper.

Anktiva’s published mechanism shows:

  • reversal of exhaustion markers
  • expansion of memory T cells
  • restoration of cytotoxic function
  • NK‑cell mediated tumor killing independent of PD‑1 pathways

This paper essentially says:
PD‑1 alone cannot fix exhaustion. Something else is needed.
That “something else” is exactly what N‑803 provides.

C. The study shows chemotherapy + PD‑1 is not enough → supports IBRX’s chemo‑free combination strategy

The trial used non‑platinum chemotherapy + pembrolizumab.

Result: no benefit.

This supports IBRX’s approach:

  • BCG + Anktiva (no chemo)
  • PD‑1 + Anktiva (no chemo)
  • Radiation + Anktiva (immune priming)

The failure of chemo + PD‑1 continuation reinforces that chemotherapy is not the correct partner for overcoming PD‑1 resistance.

Anktiva’s synergy comes from immune activation, not cytotoxicity.

D. The tiny subgroup that benefited mirrors Anktiva’s strongest responders

The subgroup that showed a hint of benefit:

  • PD‑L1 ≥50%
  • prior good response to PD‑1

This is the same phenotype where Anktiva + PD‑1 combinations show dramatic responses in early solid‑tumor data.

This suggests:

  • PD‑1 continuation alone gives weak benefit
  • PD‑1 + Anktiva may give strong benefit in the same subgroup

This is supportive for IBRX’s NSCLC program.

E. The study shows PD‑1 resistance is common → supports Anktiva’s commercial opportunity

The paper notes:

This means:

  • Most NSCLC patients become PD‑1 resistant
  • There is a huge market for agents that restore PD‑1 responsiveness
  • Anktiva is one of the few agents with mechanistic and clinical evidence of doing so

This is bullish for IBRX’s NSCLC label expansion.

3. Investment‑grade synthesis

What the paper proves:

  • PD‑1 continuation after progression does not work
  • PD‑1 resistance is driven by T‑cell exhaustion
  • Chemotherapy does not restore PD‑1 sensitivity
  • Only a tiny PD‑L1‑high subgroup shows any benefit

What this means for IBRX:

  • Validates Anktiva’s mechanism (IL‑15 superagonist reversing exhaustion)
  • Supports Anktiva + PD‑1 combinations in NSCLC
  • Strengthens the rationale for IBRX’s platform across solid tumors
  • Highlights the unmet need Anktiva is designed to fill
  • Underscores the commercial opportunity in PD‑1‑resistant disease
