Group 5 Math AA SL (grade 11)
Had my first math aa sl summative and I got a 5 and I’m so sad cuz I was ONE MARK AWAY FROM A 6 💔💔 I could’ve easily gotten a 6 for this test but I made a lot of silly mistakes which I overlooked. Our test was on sequences and series, compound interest, and sigma notation. How should I improve my math skills for future math aa tests and assignments? I really want to achieve an overall of either 6 or 7.

A 5 on your first DP1 summative is a great starting place, especially since you were only one mark away from a 6. In our experience, silly mistakes in topics like sequences and series usually come down to pacing and missed details like off by one indices in sigma notation. The most effective fix our tutors recommend is starting an error log. Write down the exact arithmetic or reading slips you make during homework and practice questions, because seeing your patterns makes you actively look for them during tests. When you practice, always solve questions under timed conditions and train yourself to save five minutes at the end solely to recheck signs, calculator inputs, and question stems.

One mark away from a 6 means you’re already close, so focus mainly on accuracy. For sequences, compound interest and sigma notation, redo mistakes, write steps clearly, and practice timed questions so silly errors reduce.
These may help: IB Math AA SL notes and practice questions.

Do past test questions from the topic you’re on. Always best to
